fits great
this fit my win 1300 defender just fine. with a little fitting and about 10 minutes of my time, its in place nice and solid. just be patient and it'll work. sights are plastic but are securely fastened... ghost ring sight is small but lines up perfectly with front sight. shield practically centered itself while installing and doesnt interfer with the pump handle. i did put some yellow paint on front sight to pick up better. construction seems pretty sturdy. i purchased the deluxe heat shield because the standard heat shield... while it DID fit... blocked the front bead sight making it difficult to aim. my shotgun is a lot better now. i put the old heat shield on my stevens 320... product was delivered promptly, no complaints so far of any. only thing left to do is take it to the range and see how she holds up. very pleased so far
Great Improvement for an Old Dog
I bought an old Western Field (Noble 60) 16ga at a gun show for $100.I shortened the barrel to 18 1/2 inches and took a pair of Channel Locks with rubber jaw covers and gently squeezed the heat shield to reduce it's diameter till it slid on the barrel nice and tight. One of the front mounting holes was clear behind the magazine tube to barrel mount so I squeezed it tight and clamped it with the screw. It fits nice and tight and has not moved.
Good shield
This heat shield worked out great on my 870 tactical. You do have to do a little bit of adjustments, but as long as you follow the directions you'll be fine. Shot some slugs and buckshot with it on and it doesn't move at all. It's on the gun really good. Not sure why other people have issues with this heat shield. Best $20 I spent and I am really fussy with how my firearms look, and my shotgun looks great with this on and it really does save your hands from getting burnt
Ok for the price
Plastic sights
Looks good but not functional
This shotgun heat shield is great in theory, but the design doesn't work well in reality. The fitting process is not complicated and as long as you take your time and are careful, you won't scratch the barrel of your shotgun. However, if you want this part to be secure and tight, it is going to require more fitting than should be necessary. Remington 870s cannot possibly vary that wildly from the factory, so I don't understand why this part has to be modified so much to get it to work the way it should--that is to say, just clamp down on the barrel and stay put. Installation of the heat shield will interfere slightly with your forend, unless you permanently modify the heat shield, your forend, or both. This is just too much work for a part that should have just been a drop in part to begin with. Even after fitting, I found that the rear of the heat shield did not clamp securely to my barrel. It kept on wanting to pop up about an eighth of an inch off the rear of the barrel, despite having the rear tabs clamped as tight as I could get them. The heat shield's front tab is secured with two screws, but the rear tabs have to be clamped with vice grips or pliers to get them to hug your barrel. These rear tabs are not far back enough to keep the rear of the heat shield in place. The tabs really won't prevent the shield from sliding back and forth either--they're mainly there to keep the shield from being lifted off the barrel. This attachment method also won't stop the shield from rotating left or right a bit, which makes using the sights problematic. Any filing you do during fitting could possibly only make this worse. I really like the ghost ring sights, but they are cheap plastic and the attachment to the heat shield seems flimsy and awkward. After tightening them down, the curved base is not flush with the curvature of the heat shield and looks not only cheap but also like they could break easily. Not sure why the sights aren't part of the heat shield itself, or at least not plastic. Overall the heat shield looks really nice and I can get over the plastic sights, but the amount of modification required to get only a slightly loose fit is too much for just a heat shield. If you have 2 or 3 hours on your hands to fit and modify a part that should really be a 5-minute installation, then by all means go for it. Otherwise, I would skip this part and look for something else.
Cheap piece of garbage
I bought this primarily for the attached sights. It didn't fit my 870 securely, the plastic sights were about the same quality as those on a $3 toy gun from Target, and it added 0 functionality to the gun. I ended up taking it off and chucking it in the trash, a $28 dollar lesson learned.
Disappointing
Bought this heat shield to put on my 870 tactical 12g with magpul furniture. The rear clamp would not fit under the magpul forearm no matter how much I pinched the prongs together like the instructions said. I've built ARs and customized many firearms and feel confident in my abilities but this is not a great design, it is not made to work tight fitting forearm pieces. Also the plastic sights seems pretty cheap. Would not recommend and will probably give away to a buddy if he wants it.
shotgun clamp on sight/heat shield
don't waste your time or money on this piece of junk. It twist very easily, rib hits pump action wood, won't clamp securely at rear. All in all a poor design. But you get what you pay for.MY ADVISE DONNOT BUY IT OR YOU WILL BE SORRY. [...]
