Love these things
I bought one of these a few months back and paired it with a Palmetto lower on a 6 Creedmoor. This is a tall upper and Palmetto makes short lowers, a tall upper works fine with a short lower, you just have to get a tall handguard. I saw they're on sale so I bought another to pair with an Aero (tall) lower, I don't even have a project for this set but I couldn't pass it up!! lol
Great idea, but poorly executed.
I bought this on the 308 sale (on 3-08). I also ordered the 17 Design upper receiver knowing that there is no "mil-spec" for AR-10's. My thought was getting both components from the same manufacturer would guarantee that they match. Not so! The upper and lower are completely different colors. On Brownell’s website under finish, it just says "matte." Sooo, the "deal" is not so good because I will have to Cerakote the receivers so they do match. Second (and worse) I tried to show in the attached picture that the machining doesn't match up. The metal is higher or lower in different spots and there are various gaps where the light passes through... I decided to give the lower 4 stars because it is a great concept. I am giving the upper 3 stars. I don't know which is out of alignment (maybe both), but I'm hoping it will function well. Otherwise, I will change my review.
Too Bad...
Let me start by saying I have purchesed at least a dozen lowers from 17 designs, and have loved them. All were for an AR 15 and not a AR 10 (LR-308 Gen 1). I was very sad to see these guys go away. That being said. This upper does not fit the 17 designs AR 10 (LR-308 Gen 1) lower at all! Super loose and the lines are so far off its almost like they were for a different gun. hopefully it will cycle proper and I wont have any issues once I put plugs under the upper. really wish this would have worked better, but at least it was a good price. I used the 17 desings large frame upper and lower on this build. I tried to upload a pitcture but couldn't get the file small enough.
Fits the IFLR-10 Very Poorly.
Brownells says this is the perfect companion to the IFLR-10. I don't know if they know what perfect means because this thing wobbles like crazy and you can see a ton of light between the IFLR-10 and this. I purchased both the upper and lower from Brownells and am extremely disappointed in both.
