AR-15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER LAPPING TOOL

AR-15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER LAPPING TOOL Reviews & Ratings

AR-15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER LAPPING TOOL

The Brownells AR-15 Upper Receiver Lapping Tool is made of a cold-rolled steel that chucks into a 3/8” hand drill to easily “square up” the upper receiver face on your AR-15. This helps ensure precise mating of barrel and receiver for added accuracy. To use, coat the face of receiver with aluminum-oxide lapping compound; the extra-long pilot slides into the bolt carrier tunnel to help maintain concentricity with the receiver. Chuck up the drill, and begin spining the lapping tool until the desired result is achieved!

Does NOT fit Aero M4E1 Enhanced Receiver
This tool seems well made and I'm sure it's great for most uppers, however I had read somewhere that this would work for the Aero M4E1 Enhanced Upper and it absolutely will not. It collides with the internal barrel nut threads and can't lap the barrel contact surface.
Would you recommend this? Yes, I would recommend to a friend

Works well, QC needs help though
Received the tool and immediately noticed rust on it (see pictures.) Brand new, already rusty. Not a good start. No rust was on the lapping surface, but there was rust on the pilot portion causing a rough surface I was worried would damage the inside of my upper. CLP and a wire brush took it off without issue, but that's 30 minutes of my day I didn't want to spend that way. After getting the tool ready for use, all was well. Really simple to use and did it's job great. Didn't take more than a few minutes to get the upper lapped and it looks great to me (picture attached.) Only possible issue I see with it is the surface is already getting rough after just one upper. Not sure how many you'll be able to do before replacing the tool, but for the price it's fine in that regard. The tool functions well, but receiving a brand new tool that needs work to be serviceable rubs me the wrong way. I'm sure Brownells would have made it right if I contacted them, but getting it switched with a new one would have taken as much time on my part (and even longer waiting on shipping) as fixing this one. All in all, the function would be 5 stars, but with the rust issues, it's a 3 star purchase.
