AR-15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER LAPPING TOOL

AR-15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER LAPPING TOOL Reviews & Ratings

AR-15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER LAPPING TOOL

The Brownells AR-15 Upper Receiver Lapping Tool is made of a cold-rolled steel that chucks into a 3/8” hand drill to easily “square up” the upper receiver face on your AR-15. This helps ensure precise mating of barrel and receiver for added accuracy. To use, coat the face of receiver with aluminum-oxide lapping compound; the extra-long pilot slides into the bolt carrier tunnel to help maintain concentricity with the receiver. Chuck up the drill, and begin spining the lapping tool until the desired result is achieved!

Works
Easy to use not a lot of effert to get it done. Make sure to get the proper compound, I suggest the 800 grit takes a minimal amount longer.

Nice tool
I purchased the wheeler lapping tool at first, which was total junk. The face of the lapping tool looked like worn car rotors. I purchased the brownells after a friend recommended it. Very nicely, machined quality tool. And of course performed the job well.

Good Functional Tool
I had originally bought a Wheeler one. It was machined out of round and was scared up pretty bad, even on the cutting face. This one works great. It runs true and was inside a plastic bag oiled down to stop rust.

Right tool for the job
Had a half dozen upper receivers that needed cleaned up. Used 600 grit diamond compound and lapped them by hand, no power tools. Took about 5-7 minutes per upper and no issues. Easy tool to use!

Lapping Tool for AR-15
Easy to use. Remember to lube the part that fits inside of the upper receiver. Makes it easier. It took a little more time than I thought but the anodizing is hard, so that made sense once I got started. Excellent tool for the price.

Beautiful tool to hand lap, you don’t need a drill
I just used this with some 10 year Wheeler 220 lapping compound that I added about 5 drops of Hoppe’s gun oil to make it creamy. Lubed the centering shaft with gun oil , placed into an Aero M4E1 upper and then added a layer of the lapping compound. Hand turned with light pressure, slightly removed to just get eyes on the surface being lapped. Proceeded until the high spot was reduced. Removed, cleaned up remaining compound in upper. Cleaned tool. No falling on the lapping surface. Zero issues inside the upper. Proof barrel fit like a glove. Zero issues. I do think it would be really easy to over lap using a drill.

Works Fine
Does what it’s supposed to do. I took my time and went slow. Did two uppers and was somewhat surprised that they were not squared probably from anodizing. This tool corrects that issue. Thanks, Brownells.
