AR-15/M16 MODULAR UPPER RECEIVER Reviews & Ratings

The MUR is a flattop upper receiver with thicker walls than a standard upper to provide a more rigid platform for greater stability, better accuracy, longer service life, and improved reliability. Precision machined from a fully heat-treated and cryogenically stress-relieved aluminum forging, before hand finishing to final dimensions. All critical interface points are 100% compatible with mil-spec select-fire AR-15/M16/M4 components and lower receivers, and will fit most commercial semi-auto lowers. A slick, dry-lube coating over the hard-anodized finish further guards against surface wear and helps ensure smooth operation of bolt/carrier and other internal components. Comes with true MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rail with 13 cross-slots, plus forward assist and ejection port door pre-installed. Gunsmith installation recommended. Includes M4-type feed cuts. Available with or without forward assist.

SPECS: 7075 T6 aluminum, Type III, Class 2 hardcoat anodized, dry lube coating, matte black. .250" dia. pivot/takedown pin holes.

Slight changes in new design.

Typically the Vltor MUR had a more matte finish but these new receivers have a fully anodized gloss look finish. The lasering is slightly different as well. I'm a little disappointed because I loved the older look. The machining at the front of the receiver looks different also. Defenitly looks cheaper made. Not sure what happened with Vltor and their thoughts on this but maybe it was to match all the new glossy anodizing more companies are doing now.

Mine doesn't live up to the hype

It's just ok. The finish is mediocre, and the dust cover takes about 25lbs of pressure to close. I can't tell if they missed machining the bevel or the cover latch is out of spec. I bought this to go with a Quarter Circle 10 9mm lower, as it seems to be one of the most common options. I'll probably return this to Brownells, and haven't decided if I'll ask for a replacement or look for another upper with no forward assist. For anyone searching for pure quality, the Mega Arms receivers, both billet and GI spec forged are far and away superior to everything else. I wish they made a lightweight slick side upper.
