AR-15/M16 SLICKSIDE 601 UPPER RECEIVER

The Brownells AR-15 / M16 Slickside Upper Receiver precisely mirrors the contours of the original, early AR-15 upper receiver. Perfect for your next "Retro" or reproduction build, our upper has the following features specific to the original Slickside:

FEATURES:

Correct early-style carry handle contours
No shell deflector
No forward assist
A1-pattern rear sight housing

With help from the folks at Nodak Spud, this precise match was achieved by starting with 7075 T6 aluminum forgings that already have the proper profile built in. In machining to final dimensions, all points where other parts attach are finished current mil-spec dimensions, so current-production AR-15 components will fit perfectly. However, note that the AR-15 / M16 Slickside Upper Receiver is so period-accurate it DOES NOT have the M4-type feed ramps found on most current-production AR-15 flattop uppers.

*The “B” on the rear takedown lug is to indicate a Brownells product. It does NOT denote a blemished item.
NOTE: Does not have recess cut for the 601 pivot pin.

After machining, each AR-15 / M16 Slickside receiver then gets a durable hardcoat anodized in Matte Black to match modern, current-production lowers, including the black version of our BRN-16A1 lower receiver (sold separately). Our AR-15 / M16 Slickside upper is the proper receiver for "Retro-Repros" of the following rifles:

Receiver gap

There's a significant gap at the end of the receiver when install on to lower receiver, pin holes line up. I guess I got lucky there. This should be sold as blemish.

AR-15 Slickside Upper Receiver Black

Like the previous review I have the same issue! The lug holes are off center causing upper to be positioned a few thousands forward. The finish on the receiver looks fine except for this issue. I will be returning the upper and hopefully Brownells can hand pick one that is within spec.

Check fit before mounting barrel.

All my other Retro upper's I have bought fit perfectly, this one was noticeably off. There is a decent gap between the back of the receiver were the buffer tube and BCG interact. You can see the BCG through this gap. I would have returned this upper and asked for a replacement, however I already installed the barrel before checking the fit. It probably won't affect performance, but honestly for the cost of this receiver, it should not be this noticeable.
