Hard to pass up when it was on sale!
Well it looks like your standard run of the mill AR rifle tube. The package said it was a tougher grade of aluminium and I have zero reason to not trust that. Finish is a tad better than what it replaced, I CAN say that. I used this on carbine stock swap out for a rifle length ACE/Doublestar ARFX SKELETON STOCK on my PA-10. "Heavy duty" made sense since .308 and this tube is largely protected only by a bit of foam on this stock. Got it on sale made it just a no brainer.
A Little Disappointed
I recently picked up two of these receiver extensions, mainly because they're 7075, not the more common, slightly less durable 6061. While the construction appears to be on par, the anodizing (at least on one) was somewhat problematic.
Prior to installation I always wipe extensions down with a CLP coated rag and apply a graphite-free moly grease to the extension's threads.
On the one that I'm reviewing, wiping down the threads resulted in a loss of anodizing. I would suspect this extension may not have been properly cleaned prior to the anodizing process.
I'm not real sure what's going on recently with anodizing quality but, this is the second time this has happened in the last year. The first time it was not a Brownells part, it was a BCM carbine extension, and it was way worse than this Brownells part. Bad enough that I called them, sent pictures, and demanded a replacement. Who knows maybe Brownells and BCM are using the same anodizing shop for their parts. Somebody somewhere is getting sloppy.
Either way, it's installed now and I'm sure it will be fine in the long run.
