Repro A1 stock
This stock looks very accurate, and with the exception of no foam lining it will be fine for my retro build. I am a little concerned that there’s no foam lining so I’m hoping it will not be fragile or too noisy. Yet to be seen when I get it installed.

works good
Came with the short screw. Nice new A1 type stock. Installed easy on my Windham A4 gov't rifle. I'd give it 5 stars if they loaded it with foam on the inside like the originals. But, seems strong enough regardless.
Good buttstock
Im building a Model 601 retro rifle. I purchased this and a handguard. Im still waiting to be able to purchase a green pistol grip. The buttstock is nice. Looks authentic. Its as close to the real one as you can get. Im not crazy about the two spots on the top of the buttstock where the molding sprues were located. I build plastic models and it reminds me of the sprue trees that a model kits come with. It has the correct lower sling swivel which is different than an A1 buttstock has. Im glad that Brownells sells these parts because it would be impossible to build a copy of this gun if they didnt offer them. Im glad I was able to purchase it. When finished, this AR-15 will be very unique and different than most ARs that most people build. Ive built many AR-15s and AR-10s but this gun will stand out above all of them. Im glad that Brownells offers these unique parts for ARs.
Not bad, but...
Overall, this stock feels as heavy and solid as my Vietnam era original stock. Of course, the material used is not the same but I can live with that. Like other people, I decided to fill the stock with expanding foam and it was a very easy 'upgrade'. With this upgrade, my retro stock is even heavier than my original stock(about 20 grams heavier). Now the two things I didn't like: 1) The sling swivel was very hard to move. I had to disassemble it and use a drill to open the hole a little more. Now it moves like it should. 2)My biggest concern was a section of the stock that looked like the plastic deformed during the molding process? This is the section of the stock where the sling swivel is fixed(see pictures). I looked at other pictures on the web and it seems very common on Brownells retro stock. But my original vietnam era stock don't have this deformation. I really wanted a cleaner, more professional look, similar to my original stock, so I carefully sanded by hand the stock and I was able to make disappear these kind of 'waves' on the plastic. Now I love this stock!
Great piece
Easy to install. Does not need the spacer that they told me I needed. Ill be returning that. Overall happy with the product
It's alright, I made it better, now I'm
This stock is hollow and very light, not good for me. It made my mk12 very off balance. I cut up the support a bit and added 1.5lb of steel plate in had laying around. Once secured to the inner support I filled it with expanding foam. Now it is solid and helped balance out the rifle. I would also have preferred a rubber but pad to a plastic one...
pretty good, comfortable
it's a pretty good stock. i think it's probably priced a little too highly for what it is, but i do like it. let's be honest, Brownells: it's a fixed stock. that's it. for the price charged, you could throw in a spring, tube, and buffer and still come out ok. slapping "retro" in cursive script on it shouldn't necessitate a markup in price. as far as the part itself, though, i like it. it fits me better than the A2 stock as i like to snuggle in really close to the CH. i do miss the trapdoor for cleaning stuff, but this stock makes up for it by being curved better on the obliques, slightly shorter for a better fir, and having a moveable sling swivel. im probably not going to looking to buttstroke russians coming through the fulda gap anymore, so i don't need anything fixed in place. this is a good, sturdy, comfortable, very lightweight, and slightly overpriced fixed stock. buy one.
Nice Retro Stock
This stock fit my Colt SP1 perfectly but seems to be a darker shade of green than the earlier ones that looked more olive drab in pictures online. The rubber coated sling swivel is a little stiff. Also the buttstock plate is solid black plastic. I believe that the originals were rubber coated plastic. Overall a good value for a retro build.
Almost perfect, but not quite 100%.
I purchased this for use in a Colt 605 clone build, and expect to purchase another shortly for use on a 605 project. For the most part, this is actually a quite good replica of the Type-D solid body retro stock. It doesn't feel flimsy, but it will noticeably flex if you squeeze it in an effort to deform it. It fits quite well to the rifle and is very easy to install. The downsides, to me, are that the stock body material doesn't feel quite right, it has a very "hollow" feel to it because it IS hollow, and worst of all, the buttplate is plastic rather than rubber. I won't go into detail here, however it is possible to carefully fill the stock body with expanding foam. A member at the AR-15 retro forum did so after removing the internal support "tree", however I did mine after using some super glue to seal the tree into place. The end result is that my stock doesn't sound or feel hollow anymore, and is extremely rigid like the originals. I wish the butt plate were made of a proper rubber material, or even just given a rubber surface coating. Right now these sell for $39.99, however I would quite gladly pay an extra $20 to get a rubber buttplate.
