GEISSELE MARITIME BOLT CATCH FOR AR-15

The Geissele® Maritime Bolt Catch is designed with the warfighter in mind and will work with any lower receiver designed to accept a mil-spec M16/M4 Carbine bolt catch. The increased surface area promotes ease of function when locking back the bolt or releasing the bolt after a magazine change. In addition, the extended controls add an increased functionality for left handed shooters who no longer have to break their grip to manipulate the bolt catch.

Left handed shooters can easily reach the controls using the index finger of their left hand making magazine changes and locking the bolt back much more fast and efficient. Aggressive checkering covers the surface of the levers giving the Geissele® Maritime Bolt Catch a textured surface that enables positive feedback to the shooters hand when being used with gloves or at night.

Please Note: A mil-spec bolt catch spring and plunger are required for assembly and are NOT included. If the Maritime Bolt Catch is replacing an existing mil-spec bolt catch, please use care when disassembling the component from your lower receiver as you will need these parts to install the Maritime Bolt Catch.

Compatibility with billet AR-15 lower receivers is unknown. Please also note that the extended controls of the Geissele Maritime Bolt Catch will partially cover the pin hole for the hammer, a smaller punch may be required to push the hammer pin out of the receiver from the left side, and the hammer pin should only be installed from the right side of the receiver.

Nice, but Not Perfect

Let's begin with it works well for it's intended purpose. Only two things have the potential to create an issue. First, if you want to change out the trigger, the lower paddle blocks using the Geissele trigger tool. Easy fix, Dremel the corner to allow trigger pin access, verify no sharp edges, and reblacken. This should already be designed to allow trigger pin access. Second, if you plan to use a Magpul BAD Lever, the standard bolt release works as is. Thos will require further modification to reduce the lower paddle to the size and thickness of a standard bolt release.

AR-15 Maritime Bolt Catch

These are my favorite bolt catches. I couldnt leave a five star review because I bought 9 or 10 of these bolt catches and the hole was drilled to small on three of them for the retaining screw. The bolt catches are made of very hard steel and the only way you can drill the holes out larger is with a carbide drill bit. Luckily, I have a machine shop and I was able to re-drill the holes on a knee mill. It would have been very difficult to hand drill them because the carbide drill bits break real easy if they bind up.

Make sure it fits your application

Even though this does not fit my LarRue billet lower I still think this is a top notch enhancement for an AR, glad I have another rifle onto which I could install this and it works exactly as designed.

Pretty good, but...

I just put this on an old AR, and I think the function is great. The one issue I didn't like was that it seems to have some "slop" when installed. It seems thinner than the mil spec bolt catch that was original to the rifle, causing it to move side to side slightly. Other than that, it makes using the bolt catch easier and it does what is was designed to do.

Geiselle quality

This oversized bolt catch works well. Installing a bolt catch can be a pain, but that isn't any fault of the manufacturer. The machining on this part is clean, as you can expect from geiselle. The oversized surfaces make releasing the bolt easier with gloves, and I know a lefty shooter that swears by this release over his ambi bolt catch (he can reach up with his trigger finger and work the release with his index). My only concern is that this will make removing/installing your front trigger pin a pain as the upper surface covers that hole from the left side of the receiver. Make sure you have a quality trigger installed prior to installing this bolt release, or you might be stuck removing this bolt release to get a punch on that pin squarely.

A solid 4.....

Good catch. Definitely a forging with a decent finish. It does have the attention to detail Geisseles given me. Its more than a traditional setup but less drama than a lever. For the price go for it; you can always return it & its Geissele so the finish seems really good. I definitely like it & recommend it.

Great if it fits (won't fit Mega Maten)

So I bought 3 of these, the two I used on AR15 platforms worked great, so if they fit and function they seem great. However it would not work on the Mega Maten 308 lower. It had several issues fitting that lower. The first was that the bottom of the lower "tab" interfered with the mag release bar and the top of the lower tab interfered with the lower frame. Both of those things were fixable with a little grinding. However once those two things were fixed the back of the lower tab came into contact with the lower and did not allow enough travel for the bolt catch to pivot upward enough function. Not a big ding against Geissele, but just letting others know if they have .308 lower it may/may not work, and it certainly won't work with the Mega. The other issue is if you have a lower that uses a solid pivot pin for the bolt catch like the Mega billet lowers, as opposed to a roll pin you may need to open up the pivot hole a bit, both of the ones I got were too tight to use with the machined pin that Mega uses.
