AR-15 M16 A1 LOWER RECEIVER Reviews & Ratings

Designed in conjunction with Nodak Spud, the BRN-16A1 Lower Receiver matches the features of the original M16A1 Receiver. Perfect for a “Retro” or reproduction build, these lowers precisely mirror the original profile. Features specific to the BRN-16A1 Lower Receiver are the proper M16A1 front takedown lug profile, and profile surrounding the receiver extension. Most forged lower receivers produced today feature “A2” profiles, which are incorrect for M16A1 reproduction builds. The lower starts off as a 7075 T6 aluminum forging, then is machined to mil-spec dimensions. Once machined, the lower is finished with a matte black hard anodized finish. This finish matches modern uppers found on the market today, as well as the Brownells M16A1 Upper Receiver sold separately. Standard AR-15 components will work perfectly with this lower. Simple, engraved markings on the lower include:

XM Purple

Beware: if you order this expecting an XM Gray lower receiver, you may be disappointed. Like another reviewer, mine arrived with a distinctly purple tone. Compared to my genuine Colt M16A1 upper with Nodak Spud lower, the difference is glaring. Very disappointed as this was going to be the foundation of a XM177E2 build.

Nice Finish Not So Great Fit

The actual lower looks great and it functions well enough for my MK12 as a placeholder. That being said I'm on the list for the real deal Nodak Spud 16A1 lower. The fitment on the brownells iteration has a little too much play for me.

Color is off

The receiver is milled perfectly however as others have mentioned, the color is a weird greenish gray. I didn't think it was too big of a deal since I had ordered a Brownells gray A1 upper receiver and they would match. Just received the upper today and it's a complete mismatch. The A1 upper is definitely a charcoal gray and is no where near a match for the lower anodizing. The lower actually makes the upper look black when paired together. Looks better in the photo, but in person it's disappointing. Should have went with black. You would think someone would have noticed immediately the color was off when Brownells got the receivers back from anodizing. Not sure where to go from here. Return? Have it refinished to match?

It is not XM Gray

It is excellent A1 Lower. However, color is not met my expectation. For Repro rifle, anodizing and color is the most important factor. It is very dark Grayish Black. Anyone want to build XM Gray M16, keep away from this parts

Horribly Out Of Spec

Idk if Im the only one but the lower I received was horribly out of spec. I realize its a blem but that means only aesthetic issues. My magazine catch well was not milled into the proper shape. It was an oval rather than two flat sides on top and bottom. The trigger guard ears are too wide and the DPMS trigger guard rattles around. Its funny to me how blown up this m16a1 clone project was only for them to stop stocking and discontinue half of the parts you need.
