amazing
Couldn't get one while in stock. Found one on Gunbroker. NOS. Perfect in specs. Built a m16a1 . Just like 1967. Got my eyes fixed to 20/15 vision to be able to see irons again . In a stand in Georgia , big red sow , took up the slack on the 2 stage , sight post on the neck , thank you Brownell's for a quality lower and upper that gave me special memory from long ago.
Historically Accurate Lower
Fantastic lower if you are looking to build an M16A1 clone. This is a proper Colt 603 lower, it has no markings on the right side by the safety and it lacks the additional material by the takedown pins that were added with the M16A2.
Bare minimum
Decided to order two of these. I liked the fact that there wasnt any logos just serial markings. Its bare which I like more of. Used these for my Sig Rattler and Virtus build. Ordered the black color. Coating has a slight shine like Aero Precision and not matte like Spikes Tactical. As seen in the picture you can see the difference in tone of black. Im satisfied with the lower. Pricing can be a little less in my opinion.
Brn M16a1 lower
Well, this is the second a1 repro lower I bought from Brownells. They go well with the slickside "601" upper. This time the plan is to put a sickside upper with a 20" pencil barrel and A1flash hider and the chrome BCG. I think that would look cool. Technically not a clone, but I think it will have all the features that make it light and look amazing.
Excellent retro M16A1 receiver
I just got this lower plus have Brownells 601 upper and lower receivers from 2018. All have excellent fit and finish. I also was on the waiting list at Nodak Spud and by chance their NDS-XM16E1 lower receiver turned up first so I can compare it with Brownells receivers which have a smoother finish. All three lowers fit snugly with two genuine 40-50 year old Colt uppers from M16A1 parts kits recently purchased. All six receivers (including the two Colts) are XM Gray but each is a slightly different shade that is more noticeable in various lighting. This actually adds authenticity as this was common back in the day! If you need a retro receiver get 'em while you can!
Excellent product and shipped quickly.
Matches almost perfectly with my XM177E2 Brownells upper
Excellent, looks fantastic
I got the gray lower and matched it with an upper from Nodak that is in XM gray. The Brownell's gray is just a tad darker than the XM gray but it is a very handsome metallic gray that will wear in nicely. Its a high quality lower just wish it wasnt so expensive.
Close enough
I purchased one of the many M16A1 kits that are floating around and I was unhappy with the mismatched look of the A2 dark lowers that I had available, so I purchased one of these A1 retro lowers in gray. The quality of the fit and finish is very good. The basic color is a close match for my rifle kit though it lacks the particular slick blue-green undertones of my Colt C-H upper. I am hoping that a little wear will bring the lower into an even closer match. As it is, you have to be looking for it to notice the color difference. All in all, a very good attempt at a period correct A1 lower.
Matches Gray BRNA1 Upper Perfectly
I purchased this lower to match with a BRN16A1 gray upper receiver; the gray color matches very well with the upper (see photos). Machining looks great and the finish is nice.
Perfect for a ANAD or Capco A2 clone
Always wanted an A2 throwback to my days in the Marine's. Found a CAPCO contract A2 upper for cheap still in the pack so I couldn't resist. Found they were used to convert A1s for the Airforce to A2s in a kit keeping the lower obviously. Well I was hesitant about going with Brownells Grey with all the bad reviews but it worked out perfectly. Fit and finish was great. All parts lined up, and is surprisingly a tighter fit than my service rifle when I was in. Also found a Colt take off A2 stock and grip for better color match. Well I couldn't have been more pleased with the outcome. A++
