AR-15 L5AWM TRANSLUCENT SMOKE MAGAZINE 20-RD

AR-15 L5AWM TRANSLUCENT SMOKE MAGAZINE 20-RD Reviews & Ratings

Advanced Warfighter Magazines (AWM) fill the gap between the current metal and polymer magazine designs. These lightweight molded polymer magazines stand up to rough handling and extreme conditions of tactical operations, including heat and impact of sustained full-auto fire. Permanently attached, wrap-around feed lips are made from a single piece of precision formed, hardened steel that is PTFE coated for corrosion resistance. They help promote smooth ammo movement and will not deform when the magazine is stored fully loaded over a long period of time. Tested to withstand temperature extremes of -50 degrees F to +180 degrees F and a 5 foot drop fully loaded, onto concrete without impairment of function. Non-reflective exterior has molded-in ridges and enhanced texturing that improve the structural strength and provide a solid grasping surface. Drops free from mil-spec magwells; load to full capacity and insert into weapons with bolt closed. 30-round model fits pouches designed for standard US-GI-spec magazines. Anti-tilt follower and constant-radius body curve helps ensure smooth, snag-free feeding. Hard polymer base plate provides a positive gripping surface for extracting mag from tight-fitting pouches and removes easily for disassembly and cleaning.

What Reviewers Are Saying
Reliability and Performance
75%
Many reviewers praise the L5AWM for its outstanding reliability, often highlighting its superior feeding performance compared to other magazines, particularly in mixed-caliber use. Users report zero malfunctions in their tests, solidifying its reputation as a dependable choice, especially for AR-15 models.
Hybrid Construction
60%
The hybrid design of the L5AWM is frequently commended for enhancing durability compared to standard plastic magazines. Customers feel this construction contributes to overall confidence in its performance under various conditions, making it a preferred choice in high-use scenarios.
Usability and Design
50%
Several reviews mention the magazine's ease of use, particularly its compact design for storage and handling. However, some users find the smoke color of the window limits visibility for round counts in dimmer settings, indicating a trade-off between aesthetics and functionality.
Compatibility with Different Calibers
40%
A standout feature noted by reviewers is the L5AWM's ability to function well with both 5.56 and 5.45x39 calibers. Users appreciate how it simplifies magazine management for multi-caliber setups, with several declaring it the only reliable option they found for this mixed use.
Comparison to PMAGs
55%
The L5AWM is frequently compared to PMAGs, with many users asserting that it outperforms them in various scenarios, particularly with certain firearms. This comparison highlights a divide in user preference, with some swearing by Lancer's model over the more established PMAG line.

TOP NOTCH !!
This magazine is PERFECT for any 'Ready-To-Go' AR-15. The darker, yet translucent, body enables an easy to see round count. Twenty round length is ideal for maximum ease of convenience when storing, carrying, and during initial use. The hybrid construction means there is an infinitesimal chance of failure--- under any real life conditions.

Excellent quality magazine
I have used them all including Pmag, GI, Elander, C-Products, D&H, Colt, and on and on. These are very good quality magazines. I am not certain about longevity but they appear promising. Certainly as good or better than Pmags IMHO.

Best 20rd Magazine I can find.
I have a AUG-pattern rifle (TPD AXR) that takes AR mags and has a faster than average cyclic rate. It is VERY mag picky. From day one, the only magazine model that's been consistently reliable for me was the Magpul PMAG 30. It doesn't particularly like any of my GI mags, and it didn't like any 20 round mag I threw at it. Magpul PMAG 20, C-products SS Teflon w/anti-tilt, Tango Down ARC, GI. None of them worked... this rifle is very good at weeding out mags that can't feed quickly. This L5AWM has been flawless, however. How can I convince you to use this over a PMAG? Magpul developed the technology to put constant-curve internals in a straight magazine well, and then forgot all about it when they made the PMAG 20. Lancer didn't, and I believe that's what sets this magazine apart.

My favorite 20/30 round'ers
The steel, black-oxide feed-lips are great on these Lancer mags. The polymer-body is slightly less-stiff than the Magpul E-mags, but the feed-lips make up for it, IMO. Hard to find the 30s in stock, so I buy some 20s whenever I have an Brownells order.

20rnd mag works great with 5.45x39 M4
I shoot M4 carbines in 5.45x39 to save significantly on ammo costs. 5.45x39 can still be had for less than 20 cents per round. The problem was that the only high capacity mags available made for 5.45x39 were poor quality and unreliable. I have been searching 3 years and testing every 5.56 mag design to find a magazine that was fully functional with both 5.45x39 and 5.56. The Lancer L5 AWM 20 round is the ONLY magazine that suits this purpose and it passed all of my tests. The L5 AWM actually works better than the mags specifically made for 5,45x39. If you want one set of magazines for your M4 carbines in 5.56 and 5.45x39 - you now know about the only mag I could find that not only works, it works very reliably. Please note that this only applies to the 20 round magazine. The 30 round failed my tests. The only caveat is that you will load the 20 round mag with 19 rounds of 5.45x39 due to the larger case head. When loaded with 19 rounds of 5.45x39 the last round lines up with the 20 round mark for 5.56 bullets and that is convenient because you will not have to count - just load the 5.45x39 ammo to the 20 round mark and the mag will be properly loaded with 19 rounds and will easily load with bolt closed or open. My last test was with 15 magazines all loaded to 19 rounds with all of the common brands of 5.45x39 that are available. There were zero malfunctions. I hope this info helps my fellow 5.45x39 M4 carbine shooters.

Hard to seat in a Tavor X95
Hybrid construction should add to durability vs. plastic mags. The window is smoke-colored and not clear, making it harder to judge the amount of remaining rounds, especially in lower-light conditions. It required quite a hard blow to the bottom to seat in my Tavor X95, not ideal for when you need to make a rapid magazine change. This may relate to this firearm only, as other mags also usually require at least a tap to seat properly., but this mag seems to require more of a tap than others.

Disappointed
Initial impressions were good. 20 rounds loaded up with no issues. First range trip with a new AERO M4E1 enhanced .223 Wylde was disappointing. The magazine would not properly feed 77 grain OTM ammo, resulting in zero functionality. Enter the 20 round PMAG. Zero malfunctions in five magazines. I will stick with my PMAGS since this is a defensive rifle.
