Go To Bolt Catch
This is my favorite bolt catch. It is the perfect size for me. The “maritime” catch is larger than I like and the milspec is a little small.
Best of the MANY I have tried.
I have built between 25-30 ARs in various calibers and sizes. I have tried just about every extended or enhanced bolt catch I have found over the years. I had decided that the B.A.D. bolt catch was the best for most of my builds before they came out with the much less expensive investment cast version here. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I discovered Battle Arms was now selling a version that looked practically identical for less than half the price of the original. Of course I was skeptical that budget item that was both cast and designed to be lightweight would be solid enough for any part, let alone one that gets smacked by the hammer and bolt carrier during its life. To my surprise, while I have broken several other brands cast bolt catches I have never so much as scratched or bent one of these BAD Investment Cast Bolt Catches. I wanted to like the Geissele Marine Bolt Catch more when it came out, but I have two issues with it. The lower segment of it extends too close to the Norgon Ambi Mag Release bar that I usually run, and the top segment doesnt fit in the cut out space of some billet uppers. If you only run forged receivers and dont use an ambi mag release maybe youll prefer it but its also twice the price. Im sticking with this BAD Cast Bolt Catch.
Fit is perfect. Nice upgrade.
This gives you more real estate to make a purchase. You have more surface area to make contact. Very nice design. I thought initially I would want something bigger like the maritime. But I think anything larger than this is overkill. There is a b.a.d. milled version but this investment cast saves money and is perfect dimensionally. Almost any part kit has cast or MIM bolt catches. So you're not really losing anything but you're gaining surface area. These are a good deal and worth a try.
very nice, not too big.
great product, easy to use and not too big, just the right size
Charm
Works like a charm
Better than expected
Definitely going on all of my future builds. The lower portion is larger than expected, also protrudes further out than other models, providing better leverage and making it faster and easier to get to when manually locking bolt open. No issue releasing the bolt as normal. Also, its lighter than other enhanced bolt catches.
Enhanced Bolt Release
An enhanced bolt release and a mag release is essential when wearing gloves. The Enhanced Bolt Catch by BATTLE ARMS DEVELOPMENT INC. is an excellent piece of mechanics.
It does what it's supposed to do
It catches the bolt. It releases the bolt. It makes it a little easier to lock the bolt back. Job well done in my opinion. The fit and finish is very good and it has functioned flawlessly so far. I can find nothing about it that would merit anything less than 5 stars. If I was going into combat I would absolutely spend $20 more on a milled part instead of a cast part, but this is perfect for my MSR style hunting rifle.
Oversized bolt catch
Do wish the catch was a bit larger and available for S&w m&p 15-22
Cheap feel
On PSA Super SASS, has an extremely cheap feel. Rather a milspec one.
