Great product
Had to change out my front hand guard plate from triangle to round. Bought this for my first time knocking the sight pins out. I can say I couldn't have done as successfully as I did without this front sight block. Placed it on the cement used the Brownells taper punch and a claw hammer to tap them out. R&R the hand guard plate and replaced the pins. I would say if you have to do this, buy this block. It made life easy.
Very Durable!
I use this for my rifles and it is fantastic, especially with my AR's!
Stubborn Taper Pins? No Problem
Stubborn front sight base taper pins were becoming an issue in my shop so I finally decided to order this block to make quicker work of the task at hand. This block combined with a large punch and a smaller punch makes the job quick and easy for both installation and removal of parts. You literally cannot go wrong with this block as it's simple and easy to use with directions and appropriate markings for "pins in" and "pins out".
Great block
Great block worked first time and every time. Will work for other uses also. Tapered pins are tapered , look before you punch out.The block may be marked for Colt , drive from small side to remove.
A good bench block for mil-spec ARs
Before you buy gunsmithing tools from Brownells (or other large supply houses) you should read the Description and the Specs. I noticed that a lot of the low ratings came from folks working on S&W ARs. We all know the S&Ws are not mil-spec and the description says "block gives fitted support for installing/removing the front sight assembly on mil-spec, AR-15 rifles and carbines." Just because it is called an AR-15/M-4 doesn't mean it is mil-spec.
Makes the job much easier
Makes a difficult job much easier. It will hold the barrel in place and also show you which side to drive the pins out. I still use mine whenever I need to do gas block work.
using as temple to drill new FSB pins
basic plan... Install FSB on barrel, gas port must be located / place tool on FSB using pin holes as guide drill out with proper carbide drill.
AR-15 Front Sight Benc Block
I see some of the reviews were less than thrilling, however I have found this to be of great use for what it is intended. It might not work on all variations, but what tool does when it comes to the AR platform due to its diversity. This worked perfectly on a Colt that I did some work on, and was worth every penny making a sometimes difficult task relatively easy. I wish I had purchased this much sooner than I did.
It worked well enough for me.
I could have spent most of an afternoon making a sight bench block from wood and epoxy. Instead, I purchased this one. I have since dissassembled and re-barreled two AR15 upper receivers with this item. It has work as avertised. I wish there was a special bench block for installing the trigger guard roll pin in lower receivers. I will make that bench block myself.
Pin removal the easy way.
You can make your own jig out of wood, but why complicate things, if you have $1000+ to buy a rifle why not spend a little more and do the job right. I don't know why people give this such a bad review, if it does not lay flat when in the block put a sand bag under the receiver!!! Nothing in life is easy or perfect, if it was we would not need anything. The product may not fit all AR's or M4's front sights but that has a simple solution, call Brownells they will help. I have called them three times and they have done everything possible to provide me with the right info.
