Use the Pivot Pin Depressor to compress the spring-loaded detent to free the pivot pin for removal - a truly frustrating chore made simple with this tool. Works on all mil-spec AR-15s, except those from Colt Mfg. On the flip side, the Pivot Pin Detent Installation Tool guides the detent and spring into place and serves as a slave pin when installing the pivot pin itself. Prevents the loss of the detent ball and makes pivot pin installation easy, fast, and stress-free. Both tools are made of properly hardened, high-grade steel. Makes the task much easier

Great tool

This tool makes installing the front pivot pin detent pin and spring pretty easy. Without this tool, the detent pin and spring can easily get away from you and launch far away.

Brownells AR-15 Pivot Pin Kit

Extremely easy to replace worn or damaged pivot pins. I find it helpful to lock the lower receiver in a bench vise using a receiver vise block which fits securely in the mag well.

A must have for your AR-15 build

This product was very easy to use and gave me piece of mind that the spring wouldn't go flying across my workshop. This is definitely a very helpful tool.

Saves you lots of time

This make installing the front pivot pin so much easier. Without this you need at least three hands and a lot of luck. Get one, save yourself so much frustration.

Belongs in every builders kit

Sure, you can go to a big-box home improvement store and buy something similiar that will require a bit of modification and will work, or just spend a few bucks and keep the good folks at Brownells working during these challenging times. Replaced the BAD pivot and takedown pins (that worked just fine and their install was really easy due to the extra channel and indent in their design) with FCD pins (Quack!). The filed down hex key fits right in the channel to get that detent out of the way without resorting to razor blades or jeweler's screwdrivers. Sure there's lots of ways to do this and other tools but these fit the bill and work just fine.
