AR-15 CRT-15 CARBON REMOVAL TOOL

AR-15 CRT-15 CARBON REMOVAL TOOL Reviews & Ratings

Handy, two-in-one tool quickly and easily removes carbon fouling from critical areas of the bolt and carrier to ensure proper bolt function and reliable cycling. Scrape carbon from the carrier with the reamer end of the tool, then clean the bolt tail with the other end. The unique, lathe-like design adjusts to fit any bolt tail radius, ensuring a universal-fit tool for any AR bolt. Made from hardened carbon steel, zinc plated for corrosion resistance. An ideal tool for the range bag, field armorer’s kit, or “necessaries” bag.

CRT-15
Works good to get carbon out on guns, i work on a lot of post samples so carbon build up is pretty dense. Havent gotten to use it on an ar10 yet.

Recommended AR Cleaning Tool
This tool worked fine on my AR15 firearms (I've got two). I understand getting all the carbon off is unnecessary, but I clean my guns after shooting each time and wanted a tool to help me clean better. There was only so much I could get off the bolt carrier with a knife blade on the outside of the carrier. On the inside of the carrier, I was only using a nylon brush made for cleaning out the inside of the carrier. This tool actually has steel scrapers which removed carbon which I didn't even know was in there. This tool was recommended to me by a friend.

Works, good addition to the box
So here's the deal. Its a great tool, BUT you have to understand its not magic. Just like any cleaning tool, it comes down to the time you put in. I find that this is a GREAT tool for getting the 98% of the carbon off the tail of the bolt and inside the carrier. My BCM carrier is machined well at the back of the chamber where the bolt and gas rings seat. DEPENDING on how clean the machining is on your BCG will determine how well this tool works. If a tool and carrier is in spec, you will be fine. A lower end carrier that may not be machined well could have uneven surfaces that carbon will sit in and this tool will not get it.

Average at best
This tool works well at removing stubborn carbon off the bolt tail but it is a slow process. The carbon scraper gets some of the carbon build up out of the bolt carrier but don't expect it to be squeaky clean; overall it's a decent tool but its only average at best. Having used numerous different carbon scrapers this wouldn't be my top pick, there are smaller tools out there that work faster with the same or with slightly better results.

Save Your Money
Save your money and buy some dental picks and good brushes. This tool is lacking for the price. It is well constructed, but the bolt carrier portion of this tool barely got any carbon out, and the Bolt tail portion has such a small contact area that it's just as fast to clean it with traditional methods. Even after using this tool I still had to go back and finish up with a scraper and brush.
