AR10 Carbine / Vltor A5 Demistified
Reading over the questions and the answers from the staff there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding this product because it can be used in both large framed and small framed AR pattern weapons to accomplish different tasks. This is a Sons of Liberty branded "AR10 carbine" receiver extension commonly known as a "Vltor A5" length receiver extension. This SOLGW branded receiver extension differs from the VLTOR A5 extension because it has 9 positions and it has drain holes on the last two positions. The product description is incorrect because there are not 7 positions. This product is used on small framed AR15 pattern guns to improve the management of carrier speed. If this product is being used on a small framed AR15 pattern gun, a rifle length spring is used, typically the rifle length Spring Co green spring, with a VLTOR length A5 buffer. The VLTOR length A5 buffer can accommodate 1 additional weight than a standard 3 weight carbine buffer. So, in a small framed AR15 pattern gun, you can have more total weight in a buffer to reduce carrier speed and more possible permutations of steel and tungsten weights to tune your carrier speed. This product is used on large framed AR10 pattern guns to enable the usage of a collapsible stock. In a large framed AR10 pattern gun, a standard 3 weight carbine buffer is used due to the extended length of the AR10 bolt carrier group. The default configuration from Larue is an AR10 carbine/VLTOR A5 receiver extension (this product) with a Spring Co red (extra power) carbine length spring and a standard H2 carbine buffer. If you are tall, you can get more carrier speed control with a rifle length receiver extension and a full sized AR10 buffer because the full sized AR10 buffer can hold more weights than a standard carbine buffer. In a large framed AR10 weapon, an AR10 carbine or VLTOR A5 length receiver extension trades carrier speed control for the ergonomics of a collapsible stock. It benefits smaller people. I personally use this receiver extension in small framed AR15 patterned guns only and I use a full sized rifle length receiver extension in large framed guns. Adjusting carrier speed at the buffer is much more robust than trying to do so with a 3/32 allen key at the gas block between the barrel and the rail. Those adjustable gas blocks freeze up and fail over time. I can't entrust my rifle's function to a 3/32 ball end allen key. Keep in mind as you adjust your carrier speed that duty guns are intended to function in all operational conditions. Cold weather, OTB, moon dust, etc can further reduce your carrier speed. If you're using this on a duty gun, you should put the rifle in the freezer for a few hours and confirm that it can still cycle reliably with your chosen buffer weight and ammo. If it wont reliably function, reduce your buffer weight until it does.

First time using it
It's going to be the first time using an extended buffer tub on a build and i hope it preforms as described and the machine work and finish is great.

Not 7 position
ordered this and it is actually the loyal 9, which is hard as hell to find right now so I'm stoked.

Dont waste your time
These are not even in the same league as the original Vltor A5 receiver extension. The Vltor A5 extension has a much smoother finish inside. These even cost more than the Vltor. Just buy the original and be done.
