AK-47/74 UNIVERSAL X-MODEL HANDGUARD Reviews & Ratings
Another Solid Rail from MI
Its 100% rock solid. Ive never had any problems. Probably because I used the PROVIDED LockTite, as recommended. If you understand how firearms operate and the necessary steps to ensure proper function when adding aftermarket accessories, you should grab one of these. If you think anything you attach to an AK using small set screws is going survive the violent cycling of an unbalanced long stroke piston operating system forever without the use of thread lock, get yourself a nice polymer setup to replace your hand guards.
Shakes loose after 61rnds of 7.62x39
So to start you cant instal this with the front sling post, so you HAVE TO GRIND IT OFF. This didnt bother me until I took it to the range and put about 120 rnds through it. I had my bipod mounted to it so I didnt realize right away that the whole thing had come loose. When I say loose it has about 15-20 degrees of movement now. I havent applied the locktite that comes with it to the screws because that stuff is terrible. You shouldnt have to use ANY adhesive. For $145 the thing should stay in place. To be clear I tighten the screws as much as possible before shooting and it still shakes loose. I have taken it back to the range seven times and have counted the number of rnds it takes to shake loose and its exactly 61 rnds. Honestly super mad about this because I bought this set expressly to mount a red dot, and if the base shakes loosewith 20 degrees of play the red dot is useless. On that note the top rail is smaller than a standard rail so any optic you install will be offset by almost a half inch totally messing up the sight picture. In conclusion, I cut of my front sling post to install a an overpriced poorly designed handguard. Besides all that the handguard material is good and havent burned myself on it unlike the factory set my vska comes with. Its heavy but that doesnt bother me.
