590 SHOCKWAVE 12 GA 14" BARREL/SYN

590 SHOCKWAVE 12 GA 14" BARREL/SYN Reviews & Ratings

Mossberg's 590 Shockwave pump action sports a 14" barrel and a unique "bird's head" pistol grip instead of a full buttstock, making it compact and highly maneuverable - ideal for a personal defense shotgun. And the 590 Shockwave is not subject to the National Firearms Act, so you don't need to go through the hassle of filling out ATF paperwork to acquire a tax stamp - you can see Mossberg's ATF exemption letter right here: https://www.mossberg.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Shockwave-Letter-from-ATF-3-2-17.pdf (also check your state and local laws). The Mossberg 590 Shockwave's short barrel and short overall length of only of 26-1/2" make it easy to operate in tight spaces, while still packing the firepower of 5+1 12 gauge shells, either 2-3/4" or 3". The Raptor® bird’s head pistol grip is designed to maximize maneuverability and minimize the impact of felt recoil. The cob-style forearm, with nylon strap to keep your hand in place, gives you excellent control and smooth operation.

  • Ambidextrous top-mounted safety is easy for any shooter to access
  • Dual shell extractors
  • Anti-jam elevator
  • Twin action bars for non-binding pump operation
  • Sling swivel point on magazine cap
  • Open bottom loading port

Built on a lightweight anodized aluminum receiver, the Mossberg 590 Shockwave still offers steel-to-steel lockup between the bolt and barrel, ensuring many years of safe, reliable service.

Excellent shotgun

Not as rough as feared
My father got this gun. We've shot: Aguila and the other brand of mini shells in 4 and slug; 2.75" shells in 7.5 target (steel), rubber ball, and 4 buck. We've used both the rubbery insert and plastic adapters for the mini shells. We've had some trouble cycling both shell lengths (operator error?). It cycled well with both shell types last time we used it. All loads and sizes above were just fine to shoot. Although the 2.75" 4 buck did sting, we had no issue managing recoil. I was shooting at eye level (and I'm a man of slight frame) and my friend who is disabled was shooting from the hip. Just about any load should be manageable for defense, but, for fun, I recommend light loads. I was afraid this would only be good for fun, but it seems great for defense too.

Fun to shoot
Just point and pull. Easy to operate. Holds 5+1 standard 2 3/4 or 8 +1 mini shells. I like the mini shells low recoil .

I really like mine.

LIKE IT, don't think it is for everyone
Liked everything but the cheesy fore-strap. At least they should have smoothed the saw like edges where they cut the strap with a hot knife. You are really asking for it, if you pull the trigger when trying to sight it like a conventional shotgun. I put on a Crimson Trace laser making it a defense piece in which I have total confidence. I'm anxious to try it with the new low base shells which I believe make total sense.

Fun and effective
Purchased Shockwave as home defense and car weapon. The size make it perfect to fit in car or luggage when traveling by car. 12 gauge firepower is excellent. Practice with weapon is recommended since it is smaller than normal shotgun.
