I installed this kit quickly and easily on a Mossberg 500A. The hardest part of the installation is removing your original magazine tube as most have threadlocker on the mag tube threads. I applied a bit of heat to the tube, clamped the receiver in my soft jawed vise at the front of the receiver to minimize the possibility of warping the receiver and turned the tube out with a strap wrench and piece of neoprene rubber to keep the wrench from slipping. The replacement mag tube is easy to install; make sure you tuck the follower and spring in the tube before installing, and make sure you push the follower inside the tube as you tighten it. Once that's done, reinstall your receiver internals and new barrel and you're off and running. I set this shotgun up specifically for use with Aguila mini-shells; the extended tube has a capacity of 12 rounds plus one in the chamber for a total of 13. If one cannot solve a home defense problem with 13 rounds of 12 gauge ammunition, you live in the wrong neighborhood! With a mini-shell adapter (available here on Brownell's) pinned in place (not required but ensures that the adapter can't fall out under any circumstances), feeding and ejection is smooth and reliable, making this a light-recoiling but still reasonably powerful home defense shotgun.

Without alteration to the spring, the tube only holds 7 rounds of 2.75" shells.

Started with a 50.00 mossberg 500 and added this kit for 3 gun matches. Easy to install, hard to get my old parts off due to some rust and neglect. Installed great and works fantastic. I got this about a year ago to stick on an old 500 i got on the cheap. I've ran about 520 rounds down range, mostly Winchester slugs. It holds zero flawlessly, I've shot a cloverleaf group at 80 yards multiple times with Winchester 2 3/4 inch 'Magnum' slugs. it is a little nose heavy when fully loaded, so if your petite, I'd suggest just getting an 18 inch barrel. this is magnified if you're using polymer furniture. Installation is gonna require some tools most people won't have immediately on hand. a heat source like a small pencil torch, butane torch, or heat gun will help immensely. but you *can* get away with a rubber strap wrench, available for cheap from any home improvement store. but you'll need to clamp it down good. careful, you can crush the receiver if you torque it to much. I'd suggest using wood or plastic blocks and clamping it to something solid if you don't have access to a proper non-marring vice. once you've broken apart the old mag tube and the receiver, make sure to clean out the remaining loctite residue before installing the new tube. I'd also suggest applying loctite to the new mag tube's threads before installation to ensure it doesn't back out during recoil and don't over tighten the tube.

This was an amazing upgrade for my 18.5in barreled 500 Flex Tactical, primarily a HD and steel match shooting shotgun. It's fantastic to have the extra ammo vs the stock 5+1 setup as well as a tighter grouping at distance with target loads. Used a hair blow dryer to heat up the Mossberg logo on the under side for about 5 min, Red Locktight from factory, and actually wrenched it off with my hand while holding the lower. New barrel went fit like a glove! NOTE: Make sure you fit the rounded nub cap for the spring into the Mag Tube before cranking the barrel down. Definitely back order if out of stock!

Genuine Mossberg parts. Perfect fit, just what you need to turn your bird-hunting gun into a 3-gun ready shotgun. One point, during install of the magazine, put your pinky on the follower and wiggle it so that the magazine will line up properly on the threads. Save the old parts to put your 500 back for dove and quail season.

Waited on purchasing this kit for quite a while, now that I have it I kick myself for not ordering sooner. Arrived on the second day after placing the order. Took about 10 minutes to swap out - with basic tools went flawlessly. Great product that changes the gun into what I wanted, which is all I could ask for.

It's customary to start with the "goods", but I'm starting with an "other" because there's only one and it's not the kit's fault. If you have a standard magazine tube (OAL ~ 14.5" - 5 shot) the factory has used RED LOCKTITE on the threads. You WILL destroy your original tube if you don't use a heat gun to take it off. It will not easily come off with a strap wrench like the video shows. I gently clamped my receiver upside down in a padded vice, and applied the high setting (1500w heat gun) to the follower and lower receiver where it says "MOSSBERG" for about 3 - 5 minutes. The whole receiver got pretty warm, but I don't see any damage to composite (plastic) trigger assembly parts. I cut up an old inner tube and doubled it twice over to save the surface and just used a pair of channel lock pliers on the end towards the muzzle it resists crushing better and you can easily crush or mar the aluminum tube. BE CAREFUL! That said, this kit is the perfect complement to my 500 field gun. Fit and finish are OEM. Backorder it or buy it as soon as it is back in stock because it won't stay in stock for long. If you 3-gun, this is for you, if you want a serious "riot gun", this is for you. I'm keeping the wood furniture because it's very old-school police shotgun, although I may get a Hogue overmolded furniture set later. If you want an outstanding HD shotgun, this is definitely for you. Oh yeah, I almost forgot... fast, friendly, excellent service from Brownells. I'll be back...

had been wanting to get one of these. Brownell's is the only place i found it. back ordered one and it shipped the same day. got it 3 day's later and the bluing was rubbed off on some areas of the barrel. called them up and they were very helpful. they apologized and said she would personally check out the next one before it shipped and they sent it before i sent the other one back. fast shipping again and this one was good to go. installed it and man what a difference. i love it. also refunded my shipping cost to return the other one. their customer service is some of the best you will deal with. it's like i have a new gun. i will have to get it drilled and tapped at the front for my carry strap, no big deal. the 18.5" barrel i took off came drilled. if thinking, get it.

I have waited ( it seemed). for this to be brought back in stock. When saw it become available I ordered it. Glad I did it made my shotgun it to a real home defense weapon. Easy to install looks great.
