Criterion Customer Service is Amazing!
This review is mainly for Criterions excellent customer service. After receiving my new barrel and Brownell BCG I had the head space checked and found it was closing on No Go gauges. I called Brownell and didn't receive much in the way of help, so I decided I'd contact Criterion directly. They were extremely helpful and immediately offered to take a look at it for me to figure out a solution. I will definitely be purchasing all my barrel through them in the future.
Very Impressed
This barrel is fantastic for anyone who desires excellent accuracy with affordable military style 147 grain ammo. I shoot too often to be able to afford all match grade ammo all the time and I am very impressed with the groups that I am seeing out of this 22" barrel. I've used several brands from a few different countries of manufacture and all brass 147 fmj military style 7.62x51 ammo seems to produce right around an inch to sub moa groupings at 100 meters. Highly recommended!
22" barrel review.
I have this barrel and installed on a dpms 308. I did the bench rest type of brake in and after the third cleaning the copper fowling was almost zero. The barrel is more accurate than I am, nothing short of a tac driver. 2900 fps nato 147gr to boot.
Revised rating
I left a three star review on this barrel previously. I actually ordered and received the 22" .308 barrel. After changing out the bolt, even though headspace checked ok, I'm getting better consistent groups. I also took the 5x20 Ziess off and replaced it with Meopta which has very reliable adjustments. I've had several of the Citerion barrels, .308, 6.5 Creemoor, and several .556. They have proven to be very good at a reasonable price.
Not consistent accuracy
I've bought two of the .308 Criterion barrels, and one 6.5 Creedmoor barrel. The one .308 20" chrome lined bore was very accurate and consistent, as was the 22" stainless Creedmoor. The 22" .308 stainless 'target barrel' does ok for the first three shots, then groups get erratic. I'm thinking it warps from the barrel heating up a bit. Aero matched upper and lower, all quality parts, no junk, just not so good on this barrel
I tried!
I tried to like this barrel. First one I received, the gas port was drilled at about 12 degree off the index pin on the extension. (crooked!) Brownells promptly sent out a replacement. Second barrel will not group. 175, 168 or 155 bullets from the big three. Several powders.... Varget, H4895, Benchmark, RL15...I'm not new to this. Accuracy was unacceptable for a Hybrid contour match grade Barrel. Two other lesser Lrg frame rifles shoot better than this premium build. Brownells return policy is excellent. I have a 223 Wylde Criterion hybrid on an Anderson build that is excellent, not sure what happened here.
Dud
Bought this barrel for an ar10 build, veery disappointing results after breaking in the barrel, a 5" group at 200yards was the best target i could pull. I bought it because it was supposed to have been match grade quality. Very disappointed.
