some fitting required
The sight was a bit too snug going into the slot. After more than a few careful strokes with a file, it pushed in as expected. The set screw will keep it in place. Everybody is happy.
Fits Colt 1991A1
Colt 1991A1. Two layers masking tape on each side of slide. One paint stick each side of slide protects from vice jaw marks. Slide dovetail just above jaws of vice. Tighten vice firmly, but not crush it. Removed old sight driven from right to left, viewed from back of slide. Very slightly rounded right side edges of new sight to help it start into LEFT side of slide dovetail. Took a few times to align and start sight into dovetail, but then drove in smoothly with brass punch. Some firm hits at the end to center sight in slide. The dovetail had a punch mark put in by Colt, I left the mark there and drove the new sight over it. Color matches Colt. Looks good, have not shot it yet.
Outstanding Value
Took all of 15 minutes to fit this to a Model 1927 Argentine 1911. A few passes with a stone and it tapped nicely into place. Nice quality of finish. Serrations very crisp and even. Classic looks. I wold recommend this to anyone.
An excellent product
Using this product on a 1911 Springfield LW Champion Commander-style. Using it for my off-duty gun, the sight works really well. The U-Notch allows for great visibility of the front sight.
this is the one
I own several 1911's, some came with slanted rear sights ... they look nice ... but I never understood their usefulness. I bought this simply to raise my POI on an older Colt. It did that. But once I installed it, it was clear this sight was built for serious business. The sight is perfect, as is, for defensive, or even action-oriented competition. But I'd like to also see a more bullseye-oriented sight, with a narrower notch, and flat bottom. This sight was also a perfect fit in both my older Colt, and recent manufacture Colt. Nice and tight ... but not enough to bring out the 5 lbs sledge.
Very pleased
Couldn't be happier. Fit with minimal filing. Great sight picture. Doesn't look out of place on a Mil-Spec gun.
Sometimes simple is best
I put this sight on my colt commander, which is my off duty conceal 1911. I carry a Wilson CQB on duty with their "U notch" sight, so it was sweet to find this one (keeping a sight standard). The sight fit a little tight and needed some minor fitting (a nail file worked well) to fit the slide after the pistol was Duracoated. The anti -glare lines cut into the sight work just as intended. The sight mates up to the series 80 front sight or any comparable in height VERY well. It's very thick, so adding a tactical advantage if you had to rack the gun on a boot, table, duty belt, ext. When building a carry 1911, one which has to do its job, looks are not the best reason to chose a sight set, but on a side note, this sight does add a very nice "retro" appearance to the weapon.
Remington 1911 R1 Install
I bought this to install on a Remington 1911 R1 standard blue model, with standard GI-style dovetail rear sight (NOT the Carry or Enhanced model), as I did not care for the stock rear sight's square edges for carry, or the huge rear white dots for shooting. This replacement sight took quite a bit of filing to fit the Remington dovetail to even a very snug fit - if you are not knowledgeable, skilled nor have the correct files for the job, it's a gunsmith install on this firearm. Having said that, I am a 1911 armorer and it took me about 45 minutes to fit the sight, and touch-up cold blue it. Fortunately the sight takes Brownells Oxpho-Blue Creme very well. The resulting sight picture with the stock front sight is very nice - no distracting huge white dots. The serrated rear face creates a no-glare presentation, and the rounded corners are nice for concealed carry of the 1911. At the range, POI after drift windage adjustment was zero at 15 yards with a center hold, using 230 grain factory ammo. All in all, a nice replacement for the Remington 1911 R1, but not a drop in.
Worked well
Installed on series 80. Needed some flat filing but fits fine. Did find some rust that I touched up with cold blue.
