Not a fit
Certainly not a drop in part. Paid a good buck to ship it to Canada only to find it did not work in my Colt Rail Gun.
Ed Brown has become junk
My gunsmith got frustrated after an hour of polishing poor quality metal on this part that he set it aside and installed one from another reputable manufacturer. Low and behold, the other one worked. Fortunately for me, he did not charge me for the hour he wasted on the Ed Brown. This is supposed to be the top-of-the-line, but Ed Brown's quality has suffered as of late. Don't bother with this, and go with another semi-custom manufacturer.

I did a few extended mag releases on 1911s a few years ago, bought the hex head kits to go with them and they all dropped in in less than a minute. Perfect fit and function on all of them. Unfortunately I couldn't remember what brand they were (lesson learned, review my previous orders to check), and ended up ordering these Ed Browns, 5 of them, of which 4 required extensive fitting to complete. The catch end had high spots that kept it from entering the frame that took several trial and error fittings after jewelers file touch ups. Still not happy with function - they still grind a little, will likely start over with Wilson Combats.
where's the spring & plunger?
I could have gotten a mag release from other vendors for $6 complete with plunger and spring. (non Ed Brown) Ed Brown is nothing but a big name rip-off anymore....think Harley Davidson..........pay too much, comes in incomplete, then takes work to make function properly in its' intended purpose. avoid unless you like wasting $$ I bought the "stainless" version btw

Magazine will go only about halfway into gun when inserted. When mag. release was then depressed, magazines would then go all the way in. Same problem as others reported... gritty, rough mag. release. Tried two of these in three new high-end frames; swapping around led to same problem with all combinations. Both mag. releases returned to Brownells. (Surprising result for me since I've used many other Ed Brown parts on other 1911 builds with no glitches whatsoever.)
Doesn't work well in Springfield
My son shoots USPSA and needed a new mag release since he wore his down completely. The grooves for this are too deep for his Springfield Range officer, so when he pushes the mag release in completely, it gets stuck there! Not good for a competitive shooter
Poor Design, even worse fit.
Very poor tolerancing-- Tried using it with several catch locks and springs, but they all bound and stuck internally. I was able to smooth it out some to achieve some functionality. But when I did, the design of the catch is such that it can push through too far and bind on the magazine you're trying to eject. Sometimes it will even stick and not let go.
Very gritty
Ordered Ed Brown mag catch and it's gritty as heck. I have polished the edges and bore but no help. Ordered Wilson Extended release to compare and it's smooth as silk. Brown release is going in junk drawer.
