1911 DROP-IN MAXI-WELL Reviews & Ratings

Drops right onto 1911 Auto frames without gunsmithing, and the separate magazine well can be removed without disassembling the pistol. Enlarged magwell greatly increases frame opening for faster and easier magazine changes. Flat housing increases grip surface area to help keep the pistol from riding up during rapid fire. Available in blue or stainless steel with 25 lpi machined checkering that helps keep the pistol centered in your grip. Also available with the exclusive Chainlink and Chainlink II designs. Both machined-in patterns provide a very secure, non-slip gripping surface, without the “sharpness” of conventional checkering that can sometimes abrade your hand or grab at your clothing during a concealed carry draw.

SPECS: Steel, blued (BL) or stainless steel (SS). Available with 20, 25, or 30 lpi checkering, or with chainlink or chainlink II patterns.

No fitting required

I replaced the ILS mainspring housing on my Springfield Loaded with the drop-in Ed Brow Maxi-Well. No fitting required, no need to purchase a spring kit, you could use the OEM internals from the original MSH. This drop-in magwell will fit directly on other Springfield 1911s with no fitting(TRP/TRP Operator/Mil-spec) Very satisfied with my purchase, highly recommend!

Good Quality Magwell

This magwell is exactly what i was looking for to add to my Colt Competition Series. Appeared to be easy to install and it required no gunsmithing/fitting. I also had to order Wilson Combat G10 grips with flat square bottom from Brownells to match the new magwell. Also got Tripp Research mags with plastic base pads to be used in IPSC and they work well with this magwell. For those who live in Canada - it took 10 days to deliver this item and I paid only $10 for delivery. It is hard to find such product up in Canada, was only able to spot a similar magwell made by Wilson Combat for CDN$250 plus tax. Constantly updated tracking helped me to trace the package to its actual location. One more thing - Brownells web site is awesome, Its designers and developers deserve highest recognition, as well as call center workers. Will definitely shop with Brownells again.

Good fit for RIA...

Fit my Rock Island Armory M1911 A1 Tactical 2011 perfectly. Was just a little bit snug the last 1/8" or so. No slop. Looks great and makes reloads much smoother. Extended mags won't fit with the mag spacers installed. Had to remove them. Exactly what I was looking for.

Excellent

This mainspring housing was very easy to install, no filing required on my SA Range Officer. Snakeskin checkering is FANTASTIC. Excellent traction without being painful. I immediately saw/felt improvement in reload ease and speed. It is noticeably heavier than the stock mainspring housing, but that was expected.

Couldn't ask for more

Perfect drop-in fit in my Springfield Loaded Operator. MSH fit was snug but slid into place easily. Mag well fit flush with bottom of frame with no gap. 25 LPI checkering is grippy but not harsh. Attractive finish and great workmanship at a very reasonable price.

Well-made product

Use this on a duty weapon as well as my smaller 1911's for CC. Reloads are seamless, there are no hangups caused by this product. Looks great too.

Great Quality Part

I've used Ed Brown MSH/MaxiMagwell's on three of my other 1911's. All were of good quality, and all required minor fitting in order for the grip safety to properly engage and for the magwell extension to sit flush against the base of the frame. This product amazingly required no fitting what-so-ever; fit and functioned perfectly on my Springfield 1911-A1 Loaded Target. The snakeskin pattern is by far the most aggressive that I've used (25LPI and Chainlink being the others I have). Even a sweat soaked hand will stay put on this.

True Drop In Magwell

I installed this magwell on my Ruger SR1911 CMD. The installation was very simple and straightforward, especially after watching some very helpful videos on YouTube. The build quality is excellent and the price is very reasonable. The fit was perfect right out of the box. I recommend this highly to anyone who wants an excellent upgrade for their 1911 from a premium builder of custom 1911s.
