1911 45 ACP HEAVY DUTY EXTRACTOR

1911 45 ACP HEAVY DUTY EXTRACTOR Reviews & Ratings

Redesigned, ruggedly built extractor uses the tighter tolerances and improved geometry possible with 21st century materials and manufacturing technology to deliver outstanding reliability, strength, and durability. Proprietary steel alloy is precision machined with the latest CNC equipment, then vacuum heat-treated to Rc 49-51 for superb strength and tension-retaining properties. All inside corners are radiused to eliminate the sharp 90º corners where failures often occur. Claw is wider than factory specification and undercut and positioned closer to the bolt face for a tighter grip on the case rim. Body is longer, so it can be custom fitted to your slide, and nearly three times as thick as factory original for greater strength.

SPECS: Steel, heat-treated, blued. Fits Series 70 1911 Auto pistols, .45 ACP or .38 Super/9mm.

Solved the Extractor Problem
Installed in a Springfield 1911 TRP which had been having extractor problems. The old extractor needed tensioning after about every 100 rounds. Based on a review of extractors at gunmann.com, they made this one their top pick, so I bought it. Installation involved bending to proper tension, which by the way was harder to bend than the old extractor, so I figured if I got it tensioned properly, it would stay that way. So far, so good. Shot a 100 rounds with no problem. The slight issue I have, which I expected based on the review, is that the end of the extractor protrudes slightly past the back of the slide, maybe 1/32". See attached photo. Not worth filing down and rebluing. I would probably damage the slide if I did it myself and it is hard to find a gunsmith in the Republik of NY. I will leave well enough alone.

Fantastic
I ordered this and the EGW firing pin stop for a Caspian build. I originally had another brands drop in parts but was having clocking issues. This piece is oversized in all the right places. It took about an hour to get it fit and properly tensioned but the new combo solved the problem I was having. The extractor is wider than others Ive purchased in the past which is a nice addition!

Outstanding!
Opened the package, dropped it in (didn't file it, tweak it, polish it, or rub voodoo oil on it), went to the range, shot 10-mags of various (200g LSWC reloads, 230g Hydra Shocks, Remington 230g FMJ). Works flawlessly. Money well spent!

Great extractor - NOT a drop-in
Like all the other EGW parts I've used, this one is top quality ... but, it requires fitting beyond that which a novice can do. I've used them in all of my recent builds, and they work great. They are oversized so they require quite a bit of fitting, but that's what I want. If you are just looking for a drop-in - don't get this one unless you know how to fit an extractor properly.

Great Part
I have had nothing but great experiences with EGW parts and this one is no exception. Really nice machine work and finishing combined with a solid design make this a great upgrade for the 1911 platform. I've been running them in both government and commander length guns for around 1K rounds each and they have performed flawlessly.

The Best 1911 Extractor Available
The EGW HD Extractor takes a little longer to fit, but offers exceptional longevity and reliability for the following reasons: -Excellent metallurgy -Hook closer to breech face makes it easier to clearance the front of the hook. Also makes extractor more tolerant if fit becomes looser over time -Inside of hook (claw) is undercut so it helps bite into case rim for more consistent extraction/ejection -Body is longer and wider to ensure a snug fit in the tunnel Again, since this extractor is oversized in several dimensions, it takes more time and effort to fit, but the end result is a very robust, snug fitting part that aids in consistent extraction and ejection.

Get it together
Step up your game Brownells! This extractor was back ordered. I use Edge. The product finally shipped via 5-7 Day and not 2nd day etc. Hence, the extractor is still on it's way and Brownells wants to know how I like my new extractor. I'm hopeful it will be a great extractor. :-)
