a must have item
built 2 suppressed 1022's and the "clack" of the bolt was more than i liked, this definitely helped deaden the sound

great product
Prompt shipmemnt. Great value.
Reduces sound
This is metal core with a rubber outer sleeve. It makes the operation of the action much more quiet. Suppressed shooting my Ruger 10/22 is more fun now.

Bolt buffer pin!
I am in the middle of a 10/22 Bench rest match Frankinstein build.
Out of 2 buffers I have seen I wanted to try this one out first, as it seems a good design and very easy to install.

NEW & IMPROVED
Just bought three of these, to replace one polymer buffer pin and two buffer pins that are polymer tubes with a steel inner pin. All 3 of the old buffer pins have 90-degree, sharp edges. These edges catch on the inner holes of my receivers and make installation difficult.
The Volquartsen buffer pin is bevelled on one end! Problem solved! On my 1993 10-22, the holes are very tight, but the Volquartsen buffer pin slid in easily with a drop of lube. On two, 2020, Takedown models, the Volquartsen buffer pins slid in easily without any lube. I have two other 10-22s (total of five), so I just ordered two more of these bevelled pins from Brownells.
BTW, the Brownells photo is accurate; they appear to have a dual construction, so I tested them with a magnet. They are not magnetic. Also, they bend. My best guess is that they're two different types of polymer? Color is black.

Better than factory
I replaced the factory buffer pin with this a while ago. I’ve put a great deal of rounds down range and I still see no signs of wear. I would definitely purchase again.
great buffer
Easy install. Use oil or a light coat of grease. use a punch to center in the receiver when installing. The buffer will contract and expand a little as you install it. check for centering after a minute after centering buffer.
22 magnum
I purchased the Volquartsen recoil buffer pin for use on a Magnum Research 22 mag MLR-1722M. As it turns out, most of the recoil buffer pins that work well in a standard Ruger 10/22 or a 10/22 clone are not rated for use in a 22 mag. I know this from personal experience. The recoil buffer I had been using failed and I didn't realize it initially. Within a few rounds of the failure, the motion of the bolt moving back and forth under recoil cracked my laminate stock. I have now repaired the stock and installed the Volquartsen recoil buffer and it is working great. I have not tried to install the buffer on a Ruger 10/22 so I can't speak to the installation issues mentioned in some of the other reviews. However, I installed it into the Magnum Research 22 mag action without any issues.
Patience Grasshopper
These do fit extremely tight The best way to put them in is to use one of the quick clamps like Carpenters use, simply position the clamp on both sides of The receiver leaving room for the buffer to start in the hole, lightly oil the buffer and support the buffer outside the receiver with a thumb and forefinger while beginning to press the buffer into the receiver with the clamp. as soon as the buffer enters the receiver move your thumb and forefinger inside the receiver to support it as it crosses the gap to the other hole in the receiver, once it reaches the other side and enters the hole you may need to take an original steel buffer pin and place on the outside of the receiver to finish pressing it the last 1/8th inch. to remove the buffer for cleaning simply take the original steel buffer pin, place on the outside of the receiver and again using the clamp directly over both sides, press until it bows in the middle & remove from the middle of the receiver, no need to press further.
Big Improvement Over Stock
It takes away the clank that it makes with the OEM one. Also seems to make it vibrates less. Easy to install.
