Originally developed for the occasional bluer who is not equipped to completely polish a gun prior to bluing, Oxpho Blue - because of its ease of application and remarkably superior results - has become a favorite of the professional gunsmith as well. With Oxpho-Blue, all you need do in most cases, is dampen a piece of cotton flannel and give the area a good rubbing. The chemical goes through the oil on the gun, removes thin rust and blues the steel underneath. No after-rust. For looks, the final finish was not intended to approach the beauty of the well-polished, hot-blued gun. It has developed, however, that in the hands of a careful craftsman, not only is the Oxpho-Blue finish beautiful, but it is also more durable and weather resistant than any other known chemical finish. Oxpho-Blue has other outstanding features worthy of note:

Absolutely no after-rust.
Phosphate-like surface forms under the blue.
Rust removing qualities of the solution, making it unnecessary to remove mild rust in the usual manner.
"Wetting" characteristics of the solution, giving it the ability to penetrate oil, dirt, etc., on the surface of the gun; blue the metal underneath; remove rust and dirt; leave the gun blued and ready for oiling.
Beauty and high durability of the finish: vigorous rubbing with No. 0 steel wool is one of our favorite application methods - the more rubbing, the more brilliant it comes and, since abrasion is part of the process, normal contact from gun cases, brush and clothing won't wear your bluing. (Note: It is possible to get a surface so dense with Oxpho-Blue that water will puddle on it!)
For Neighbor Kid and Mr. Average Sportsman, a beat-up gun can be made to look quite presentable by following this recent application technique; dampen a shoe shine cloth with Oxpho-Blue and blue the gun with a shoe shine motion - without taking too much trouble to remove old dirt, grease, rust, etc. This particular gimmick actually obsoletes all other kinds of bluing for retail sale, for any youngster can make his old man's gun look quite presentable. For gun club members, neighborhood shooters, etc., one bottle takes care of the lot. (The rub-on features works wonders on tools and instruments which have been blackened and show bright along the edges: just dampen a cloth with Oxpho-Blue, rub the bright areas briskly and they are as black as before, but tougher.)

Quality touch up bluing

Used this for years.

Great Product for a non-gunsmith Hunter

I am an average hunter, who likes to take good care of my guns. I normally touch up scratches or blemishes after the hunting season is over. This Oxpho- Cold Blue from Brownells is very easy and effective to touch up marks on my blued rifle barrels. I first clean the barrel with the Brownells degreaser, and then wipe this on lightly with a clean cotton cleaning patch. After about 20 seconds, I then dry it with a clean cloth, and repeat the process several times to get the desired shade Easy for me to use, and I am well satisfied.

Great product

Fantastic results so far. Blued 2 old single shot 12 gauges. For best results, prep the metal. Sand it down and degrease. Heat the metal until its warm to the touch. I use acetone to degrease, then apply the bluing gel. Long even strokes. Let it sit for 1 minute then buff with 0000 steel wool. Then I take a wet paper towel and wipe it down. Let it dry, degrease, blue, and wipe. Repeat the process until I get the color I'm after. I found that hearing the metal will give you darker results. Great stuff and I'm going to keep buying it!

a lot of prep work but, that is expected ,does a great job just don't rush and it comes out great

I was a little hesitant to use this blueing because of of some results i have seen with other otc products. But the oxpho was gave results that. Iwas very pleased with. I completely blued. My inthe white .45 cal. Muzzleloader barrel. The final result was pretty darn close to a royal blue. Would have. Gone further but as my usual self i spilled a good portion of it. Preparation is the key. As my ole grandpappy said. Bill it takes just as much effort to do it right. As it does to do it wrong.v very good product.

The best cold gun blue you can buy

A few years ago I bought a Citori that had been "Rode hard and put up wet." I completely redid this gun including action, wood (a pro trapshooter refinished this for me), and barrels. I removed all the finish from the action and reblued it and many other small parts that were not replaced. After removing the frozen chokes with a special home made fitting the barrels were refinished with Oxpho-Blue. Everything turned out much better than I had expected. This project took almost all of a 4 oz bottle. I do not want to be without this product so I ordered another 4 oz bottle to have on hand. You just can't beat the finish with any other cold blue.

Color Case Hardening

Using this and Plum Brown to create a color case hardened look on a 1954 Browning A5 shotgun. So far have just worked on the tang, but appears it will be awesome.

Great product

This is really a great product if you follow directions. I restored a rusted barrel by cleaning it with acetone, sanding it with 400 grit paper then 600 grit and wiping down again with acetone. I applied 8 coats of Oxpho-blue wiping down each coat with a paper towel after letting the product sit on the barrel for a minute. A quick polish with 0000 steel wool with oil then wipe with a rag with oil. The barrel turned out better than most factory blues and does not wipe off like other products. Ended up with a very deep blue black finish.

Great Stuff

I just refinished most of a Walther PP. It looks like it has been professionally hot blued. I'm not sure how well it will hold up, but if it wears it's easy enough to redo.

Ive used this product more than once. Its worked flawlessly each time. Its my go to cold blue! Very easy to apply.
