Hot happy with the color.
Color was more green than tan. Applies ok but will spatter on occcasion. Do yourself a favor and order the extra nozzles.
good likeness to magpul fde
I do like it. But I figured I might as well cover the bits I don't like. It does go on thick....but I can cope with that. My biggest beef? If you start using a fresh can, you'd better be ready to use it all at that time. I just tried to use a can I'd barely opened and there was nearly no propellant left. It was practically splatter-painting the helmet I was trying to paint. It looks terrible. I really haven't been disappointed with anything I've gotten from Brownell's. This is probably the one item I've been less than thrilled with. I'd still recommend it to a friend, but only with the caveats I've covered above.
As close as you're gonna get.
Lets just face it, no one is going to match a plastic injection color. This spray can color is as close as you'll get to an original poly framed FDE. Nothing else needs to be said.
My can was Off-Color
First off - I love working with Aluma Hyde II. However, the one can of Coyote I received shoots sage green, not Coyote. My friend bought another can and his was as-expected (Coyote). We call my can "the green stuff" and his can "the brown stuff." Made my M&Ps look cool, but I was expecting a different shade (and no green hue). Test each can before you shoot your project. There are obvious variations can to can.
DESERT PINK
Desert tan? This Desert tan is so light that it takes on an almost pink color. If this is what you desire then aluma-hyde is a great and durable product, that easily beats the durability of other spray cans and even rivals duracoat when properly applied.
Ok stuff!
I use this around the muzzle of firearms. It is quite durable and resists chemicals well. I do not like the fact that the label does not always reflect what is in the can. My Matte clear turns out to be gloss. The coyote turns out to be sand. If you want to put a bunch of colors together to make a nice camo pattern you may find you are left wanting for one color and have two cans of the same color. I have found that labels do not necessarily reflect the true color in the can.
Good product, but...
This is a though and good product, except that it stays "tacky" for 48 hrs. Can't touch it or handle it for a full 48 hrs after painting. Second it is not fully "flat". It is really "semi-gloss". Maybe the formula was changed. I remember Aluma-hyde used to be completely flat. If this is not a problem for you, the product is of high quality and very durable.
NOT GREEN
alumahyde II is a great thing, i've used several colors from brownells with great success. the BIG problem with this product is it is listed as OD green... it is NOT in anyway OD GREEN in the conventional sense. it was a slight shade off from coyote. it was so similar that in the shade i thought i used the wrong can. using magpul products as a color example, if anything it looks like a mix between foliage and flat dark earth. hope this helps
Aluma-Hyde II Dark Gray
Thought color would be darker, more gunship gray. When it first came out of the can it was a good color. Once it dried it got too light. I've used aluma-hyde for years and love it. This doesn't change that.
Too much whiz and not enough bang
I really like the product itself. However, the color displayed doesn't match the color received. I've spent 13 years in the military. I practically bleed Olive Drab Green, with that said this is not OD green. More of a Gun Metal w/green tones. Good product, terrible color match. Brownell's needs to display the color screen size not the current color tile on their site.
