Excellent accuracy and penetration
12.0 gr of 2400 with this bullet in my Marlin 1894 Cowboy Limited shoots 3/4" to 1" groups at 50 yds. If I had better sights, and eyes, than stock I have no doubt they would do better. All hunts have ended with 1 shot complete pass through, even quartering on large deer.
Great Bullet
This is a great round. I bought these to shoot my S&W 41 magnum for the first time. I assembled the ammo from brand new brass and these bullets. The ammo shot great and I attained great groups. It's a large jacketed hollow point. Good stuff for self/home defense or hunting if need be. This was also my first time reloading anything at all and these rounds were easy to do. I used the Lyman's 49th reloading manual for specs on the reloading and brand new Starline brass (also bought from Brownells), 17.5 grains of Alliant 2400 powder and Winchester large pistol primers (in case your wondering).
Best Jacketed Hollow Point
At 905 fps, these bullets expand and penetrate well, forming beautiful mushrooms. At 1,378 fps, they penetrate deep and still hold together with good weight retention.
Awesome...
I use this in my S&W 4" model. Love it. Expansion is decent enough, but it remains in tact all the way through, and creates the perfect mushroom. I have yet to find a slug that has come apart to date, all remain in tact and do the job just fine. I will continue to have this as a hunting/self defense round in my weapons.
been using for 20 years
been loading for rifle and pistol for deer. I use 16.5 grs. HS-6.have not lost a deer yet.very accurate

Not as Pictured - Design Change?
My box of bullets only have one cannelure - not two as pictured. I contacted Hornady and they told me, "It can have either one or two cannelures on the bullet depending on the press tooling they are using." So I guess you won't know what you're going to get until you open the box. Brownells customer support looked at my picture and told me, "The picture on the box also shows just one cannelure." Appears to me the gentleman didn't even take a close enough look to distinguish the picture of the bullet from the real bullet. It won't do any good to rate how it shoots or works because I don't know if Hornady will change their press tooling and ship a different bullet to the next customer.
