Nice set
purchased to remove the pins on AR's and 1911's, found they will also work well on shotguns and m1a1.
love the punches
I used this punch kit to build the 5 AR lowers i have. they really stick to the roll pins. you can't go wrong buying the kit. you can use the big punches on an 870 to take the trigger assemly out for cleaning. Be carefull you can scratch your lower with it. i like to put electrical tape around the areas that could get scratched. I am currently in the Air Guard and i have on occasion let the firearms mechanics on base use them. they really like them. they are alot better to use than the regular flat punches they have to use.
Can't go wrong buying the kit
i have used these punches to build Ar Lowers and replace parts on some of my friends firearms. a really good deal so buy the kit.
Not sure
I had a stuck (or so I though) ejector pin. I broke this thing on the 1st couple taps with the 8oz ball peen. Seemed a little big. Picked up another punch (seemed big also) from a local store and it bent and I bent it back. The compact form is excellent for working on your AR platform. I'll get another, but will use my 4oz ball peen next time.
#1 roll pin punch
As commended by the above users, the pin breaks easily and not durable. I would recommend using Kroil to loosen the crude and or heating the part before you use the punch. A starter punch would be the first thing to use to break the tightness before using that small punch. I would use a two pound hammer and tap lightly to start it. Again, plenty of heat and Kroll before the punch.
Not very good
As stated in previous reviews, do not use a large hammer. The punch will easily break.
Roll pin BENT...
I Bent the #3 roll pin. They are not the strongest. I would buy the stainless. The Design and machine work is great. But the steel is poor.
Disappointing
These were not a useful purchase. I would have rated them lower, but they are unique. Mine are completely non-heat treated and too soft meaning they bend with the slightest impact. I found NO BENEFIT in using them with roll pins as far as damaging the pins and their only useful role is in holding the pin in difficult locations.
Poorly sized
I bought full set of roll pin punches many years ago for AR lower builds. Never seemed to quite fit the roll pin hole in multiple brands of AR receivers and found I would need to use the next size down which meant the punch could end up actually entering and expanding the roll pin making it tighter and even harder to insert or remove, mushrooming the end of the pin or bending the punch. i assumed I was doing something wrong. I later tried the grace punches and found them to be perfectly sized. Even after many years of (frustrating) use, Brownells took the set back, so Kudos to their commitment to 100% satisfaction. Interestingly, the Brownells roll pin holders work very well and much better than the Grace holders which allow the pin to go too far into the holder. I now use the Brownells roll pin holders, along with the Grace short starter and standard length roll pin punches and feel I have found the perfect combination of roll pin tools.
Junk, metal to soft, bends to easily
First time I used it, it bent, very poor quality steel.
