RANSOM MASTER GUN CLEANING MAT

The Ransom Master Mat and the Ransom Mega Mat Are top quality gun cleaning mats. These mats provide a firm, yet cushioned work surface for working on all kinds of precision parts and assemblies. These mats are an ideal surface for disassembling precision mechanisms such as those found in firearms.

All Ransom Mats are highly resistant to gun cleaners and lubes including most all petroleum-based solvents, and brake fluids.

Measuring 19×11 3/8 inches, the Ransom Master Mat has ribbed compartments and edges at its borders to contain any small parts or fluids that may be spilled in the course of cleaning and repair. It is relatively unaffected by most gun cleaner, carburetor cleaners, paints, varnishes and brake fluids.

MAT CARE AND CLEANING

Acetone and MEK class solvents will soften the material of the mat if allowed to remain on it for any length of time. Wipe these types of solvents off the surface as soon as possible.

To clean your Master or Mega mat, washing with soap and water usually does the trick. Cleaners like rubbing alcohol work well, WD40 has also been noted to clean and or remove smudges, It has been noted spilling your hot coffee on the mat also cleans it. Standard household spray cleaners work well also dish soap is a good choice.

SPECIAL NOTES

The mat can be burned or stained. Note some things are permanent.

Permanent marker is permanent on the mat
Stickers are permanent.
Hot plates or things over 200 degrees can affect or burn or mar the finish on the mat.
Mat material is rated around 350 degrees but some excessive temperatures can affect the mat. Heat is never recommended.
Oils or cleaners left on the mat for a long time can also have a stain effect if left on and not cleaned off after use.

Great Product!

This is a high quality mat. It's "heavy", the corners/ sides won't curl up and it holds up to solvents, oils, loctite and whatever else I throw at it. I couldn't ask for more in a maintenance/ cleaning mat.

Better than most others

I have been using one of these for several years and it is still in perfect condition. I haven't found a chemical that it won't handle. Stays flat and doesn't curl up. It's rather heavy and dense which is a good thing. The mat cleans up easily with a paper towel and some solvent. Ransom makes a larger one called the Mega Mat that's 15x21 but Brownells doesn't carry yet (as of 8/2012). My son like mine enough to buy his own.

Great to have

I use this in my shop. It great to have while working on guns. Its surface is tacky enough to keep parts that fall on the mat from rolling around, and matbe from falling off thye bench. I wish the mat was longer and wider.

Warps

I have owned two of these. In each instance, solvents such as acetone even being near ( I made sure not to get any on my second one ) these will make them warp irreparably. The material is nice and grippy and the sections for parts are well designed but due to the warpage both of mine are nearly un-useable. Will NEVER purchase another.

Two received broken in shipping

Not as flexible as advertised. First one I received was broken completely in half. Returned it and when the replacement arrived it had an inch and a half crack in it. Still usable but sure won't hold any liquid. Brightly colored sticker on wrapper says not to fold but it can't be shipped w/o being folded.

Terrible product.

This deserves 0 stars. I had the same issue as the other reviewer. Used this item once, rolled it up and the next time I went to use it, it had tore. Only a small chunk tore off and I figured that maybe it got caught in the toolbox and when I went to flip it over it tore again. Whatever they make this out of it does not stay together. Imagine trying to fold a sheet of Jello. Do not buy this item.

Novel Idea

I used this product just once and put it away, rolling it to store it for the next use. When I needed it again, I found that it had tore from being bent. I didn't even roll it tightley. Very disapointed in the purchase, wasted money.
