The ELD-X™ bullet is a technologically advanced, match accurate, ALL-RANGE hunting bullet featuring highest-in-class ballistic coefficients and consistent, controlled expansion at ALL practical hunting distances. All manufacturers conventional polymer tips in high BC bullets melt in flight.Hornady® engineers discovered that conventional bullet tip materials in streamlined, high BC bullets melt and deform. Although not a significant issue affecting moderate BC conventional tipped varmint and hunting bullets, aerodynamic heating causes BC reduction and degradation of accuracy, particularly at extended ranges (400 yds +). To counter this effect, Hornady® identified a heat resistant polymer and developed the patent pending Heat Shield™ tip. This revolutionary new tip creates the perfect meplat (tip) with exceptionally consistent results from bullet-to-bullet and lot-to-lot. At conventional range (0-400 yards), the ELD-X bullet is designed to continually expand throughout its penetration path. Upon impact the thin nose section of the bullet peels back and sheds material until it reaches the thick shank of the bullet jacket where the InterLock ring works to keep the core and jacket together. The remaining heavy shank of the bullet continues to drive forward and expand for extremely lethal results.

Amazing Bullet!

Super amazing bullet! I have a competition rifle (Tikka Tac A1 / 6.5 Creedmoor / Vortex Razor HD Gen II 4.5-27) that I was testing bullets for and was pleasantly surprised to find a super accurate load with the 143 ELD-X bullets. They shot well with W760 and H4350. It's great to know that with about the same DOPE to 600 yards, I can switch from my match load to my hunting load and hit the woods and be super accurate to about the max distance that my hunting land will allow.

awesome bullet

Good bullet for hunting or sniping when a little fouling is not a big issue. Very accurate and effectieve. Price is nice as well. My Sako Trg in .30 caliber consistently makes half an inch groups with them and Alliant RL19.

Awesome bullets

Very accurate and deadly hunting bullet. I consistently make Sub-Moa with my Sako AV .30-06 Rifle (11 twist rate) and this bullets charged with 6grs of Alliant RL19. Want to test them with RL22 or even RL25 now.

Worth every penny!!

First test load in a 26 nosler 82.0 grains H50BMG with a 10 shot velocity average of 3045 FPS and two 5 shot group of 1 each. More testing to be done but shot 7 does all front shoulder shots. Baseball size exit holes on all between 60 yds to 512 yds. Massive meat damage to both front shoulders, speckled with lead and copper. Easy to load with a nice boattail. One thing to watch out for is the type of stem you have in your dies. My first attempt failed with an RCBS seating die. It left an indention ring by the ogive. I then used a Redding die with a VLD seating stem and pefect. I will be working on a more accurate load but this first attempt is good enough for now. The copper fouling was minimal but it could be because my barrel had been hand lapped. Good luck

Inaccuracy and fouling not an issue

I have been hunting big game and reloading for over 50 yrs. The eldx is accurate half inch 200 yd groups if I do my part. In my rifle Berger VLDs shoot about a tenth of an inch tighter at 200 yds. Last yr in our camp we shot 4 elk I used eldx,s 2 shots at 450, both were found under the hide on the off side, both expanded well and averaged 160 gr. The eldx is my new favorite go to bullet. economical, accurate, and a good hunting bullet. I have no problem cleaning either, only a dad of blue on the patch.

A very flat shooting and hard hitting round

Very accurate and great quality control

I have found these to be very accurate out to 1600yds. Got them shooting .25 inch groups @ 100yds. The only thing I'm waiting for, is to see what they do in real world conditions on animals.

Extremely accurate

My .300 Win Mag shoots .25 MOA groups with these bullets. I have not experienced the copper fouling reported by other reviewers. This may be due to the smooth finish on my Bartlein barrel and its 5R rifling. I only gave the ELD-X four stars because I have not evaluated its terminal performance yet.

poor construction

I shoot a cow elk at 130 yards with 162 grains hit her shoulder she didn't go down shoot again hit the shoulder again I like hitting elk in the shoulder to put them down. She ran 300 hundred yards before getting back on her. Shot again hitting her in lungs and finally killing her. While skinning her found both bullet fragments in shoulder both bullets had core and jacket separation and didn't even go through shoulder bone. Found the third bullet on the side of the hide with also jacket and core separation Hornady should be ashamed of themselves for saying they are a hunting bullet I would not recommend them for elk and bigger game.

poor construction

I used a 300 win with 220 grain eldx bullet. Shot a elk under 200 hundred yards. I hit the elk twice and it did not go down. Hit it again the third time the elk did go down and was not dead. When I finally got to the elk it expired. While field dressing the elk found all three bullets two of the bullets didn't not penetrate through the shoulder and the third did not pass through the boiler room found it on the other side in the hide. All three bullets core and jacket separated not a good hunting bullet if the core and jacket separate. I ended up weighing the bullets the retaining weight was between 33% and 44% not an big game bullet that Hornady is claiming. I would not recommend these bullets for big game. Bullets are not holding up.
