MOSSBERG - Mossberg 500 Magazine Tube Spring 12/20 Ga 6 Shot

Product met expectations. Converted the 500 for home defense; 18" barrel and pistol grip/forend. The old spring was weak.

My Mossberg 590A1 w/18.5" barrel and 5-round mag tube was almost 20 years old w/its orginal mag spring. While loading the rounds into the mag tube, the spring resistance felt weaker compared to other, newer shotguns. I ordered this new spring and when I compared the new spring to the old spring, the new spring was 30" long compared to my original spring which was now only 16" long. I counted the spring coils and the newer spring actually had 2 coils less. Loading the mag tube now feels like my other newer shotguns and each round clears the mag tube onto the carrier with more authority, even though the old spring still worked. Also, the old spring was getting oxidized or a bit rusty looking. I don't recommend anyone waiting 20 years before changing a shotgun's mag-tube spring as I did.

I got this spring to replace a weak magazine spring in my Maverick 88 with a 5 shot tube. My original spring wasn't kicking the last 1-2 shells out as strong as it used to. This spring was about twice as long and slightly bigger around then the one that came out of the gun. It was quite hard to stuff this thing into the tube and get it reassembled. Once I got it all back together by stuffing one coil at a time into the tube by hand it seems to work well. I can still put five rounds into the tube (it would allow another 1/2 shell to go in, if there was such a thing) And it kicks the shells out into the action with authority. All in all it does what I wanted, I was just surprised by how long it was compared to my original (actually twice as long).

Spring fit perfect for the 5 shot tube. Easy to install if you are not plugging the magazine tube. A little more difficult when you have to plug the tube to only hold 2 shells.

This is a great spring for a 12 GA. Plenty long for Mossbergs 5 shot tube. It is too large dia. for the 20 GA however. It binds badly in the smaller dia. mag. tube. The original spring is smaller dia. in a 20 GA. The description says 12 or 20 but use it in the 12 only.
