What is the WOOD PLUS - Mauser 96 Stock Sporter Wood Brown?

Mauser 96 has 9/16" barrel channel. Unfinished stocks are fully shaped with factory, sporter barrel channel; requires only final sanding and finish. Mauser 96 is 95% inletted with 9/16" diameter barrel channel for custom fitting. Furnished without butt plate.


SPECS: Walnut, straight grain, minimal figure. 14" (35.5cm) LOP. 2 lb. 2 oz. (964 g) wt. Mauser 96 fits ’93, ’95, ’96 small ring actions.

Great value, nice wood, lots of work
Much better wood than I expected! It took about 20 hours of inletting, shaping, glass bedding, adding a recoil pad and finishing but was a fun project and very satisfying. I reduced the dimensions to perfectly fit my 12 year old son, saving the cut-off on the stock to add back later. This is a Swedish Mauser sporterized that I rebarrelled and rust blued, all DIY and my first attempt at all this work.

Fantastic value
I was looking for some good small ring stocks and boy did I find them! Brownells had them fo a very fair price while others wanted over $120 for much the same thing. Stock was received in fantastic shape in bubble wrap in the box. No scratches or dings. Good quality wood. Well worth the price for sure. Try it! You'll like it. I have been smithing for over 48 years and enjoy not having to take the time to make a stock from a blank, although I do so every now and again.

Good value if you want a project
Mine did include a butt plate. It has straight grain where it matters, but there are 4 small knot holes. The grain has large open pores and will need a lot of filling. For my gun it was more like 98% fit. Needed a little for the bottom metal and of course the barrel chanel. It is a decent utility stock for the price. Fine for a hunting rifle. I got what I expected based on the description.
