These really work; I have seen improvements in cycling smoothness and reliability over carbine length tubes, which becomes very visible when using an adjustable gas block set to the minimum needed. I have found that the A5/H2 (5.3oz) will cycle and lock open whereas a high quality carbine tube with 4.1oz SpikesT2 buffer wouldnt for the exact same upper and gas setting (same lubrication and both spotlessly clean) even though a lighter spring was used in the carbine tube (both are using Tubb flat springs, but the 300BLK version is the same as the other except several coils removed to accommodate subsonic loads). So the A5 reached bolt lock with the exact same ammunition and gas setting on the upper despite where the carbine tube wouldnt and even having a 1.2oz lighter buffer and also having a lighter recoil/buffer spring, which was surprising even to me that much difference occurred. That does make me wonder if a carbine tube and buffer can therefore be lighter weight in total, with an adjustable gas block for reliability tuning/optimization, if that is a big factor. If reliability is your main factor over a 2oz weight saving, then the A5 is the ticket. An MFT Minimalist stock also readily displays the setting through the top hole and runs the complete length of the A5 tube all the way forward and rearward for the most adjustment range. I therefore find that compactness is identical with this stock anyway.

This is one of the best receiver extension tubes out there. Very well made. Very good fit to lower and for all other parts- castle nut, end plate and stock.. I have two of these and rely on them for duty use.
