SPIKES TACTICAL - ST22 Pistol Plug

The buffer plug was modified to install an Aimaculate folding stock adapter on an AR15-22. The Spike’s Tactical plug replaced the Aimaculate attaching “nut” with some minor modifications, including removing a couple mils from the diameter & some material from the top of the hex “nut”. The “Pistol Plug” & the rifle works perfect.

Bought it for a 22 lr build with no stock and it works flawlessly.

Yes, it does require using an end plate if you want to maintain the use of the takedown pin detent and spring, only IF the spring hole is not threaded. Mine was not. Takes about 2-3 minutes with a Dremel to grind the end plate guide pin off, about another 2 minutes to touch up the paint with a paint pen. I put a little blue LocTite on the plug threads, threaded it tight in to my lower, completed install. To me, this was easier than tapping the spring hole in my receiver. Highly recommend for a .22LR pistol !!

there is no need to modify end plate (or use one) if you: drill and tap (take down pin) spring/detent hole for a 4-40x1/8 socket screw- be sure to shorten spring the length of the detent.

This part is very functional and looks great installed. I really like being able to use the quick attach sling mount (which works great) but there is 1 issue which caused me to reduce 2 stars. Unlike the description would lead you to believe this is not a direct fit part for your AR. If installing this properly you would still need an end plate on the rifle which is impossible to do without modification. All that is needed is to remove the centering key from the end plate which rides in the traditional buffer tube to keep everything in place. Once that is done assemble as you would any AR keeping in mind that the end plate will no longer rotate while the buffer cap is being screwed into place. This is not truly needed for the firearm to be functional but should be done to maintain the use of the take-down pin detent. Any cheap end plate will do the trick .
