Exactly what the customer wanted
Sure, it's not designed to fit on a Savage Axis, but that's what the customer wanted. So, that's what the customer got. I milled in a slot for the dovetail and clearance for the back of the sight where it's a bit beefy. Slipped right in snug as a bug in a rug. Once I got the distance to the bore center line, I ordered the front setup.

Perfect!
I am a gunsmith. Customer brought me a Universal M1 Carbine that someone had messed up with a side-mount scope bracket. He wanted it removed, but that someone had also removed the inner workings of the rear sight, leaving only the bracket. Ordered this one for a replacement. It fit perfectly with no adjustments to the dovetail and (based on the old bracket left behind) was obviously of better quality than the original.
