What is the KNIGHT'S ARMAMENT - M4 RAS Handguard?

The KAC M4 RAS (Rail Adapter System) was developed for use on the US military's M4 Carbine, and with over 1 million rails issued to date, it is one of the most battle proven designs available for the AR-15 platform. This non-free float handguard is a simple-to-install, drop-in upgrade that features genuine Mil-Spec M1913 Picatinny Rails along its entire length. What sets the M4 RAS apart from other 2-piece quad rails on the market is that it securely locks to the rifle's barrel nut via a clamp and screw arrangement, making it a very solid foundation upon which to mount tactical accessories. Includes three KAC 11 Rib Rail Panels.

Rifle Requirements: The M4 RAS is a drop-in replacement part for standard, 2-piece polymer, M4-type handguards. The rifle must have a carbine length gas system, delta ring assembly, fixed front sight/gas block, and round handguard end cap. Lighter barrel profiles work best (M4 or Government contours). Heavier barrel contours may require modification to the inside of the rail. For AR-15/SR-15 based platforms only; not compatible with SR-25 variants. Installation instructions are included.

These are getting harder to find. Was happy to see it in stock. Works like the one I was issued. Solid mount. Installed MAWL holds zero.

I wanted that classic look of the RAS.

I upgraded my MAGPUL MOE handguard to the RAS rail, as I wasn't a fan of the MOE. There was something about the KAC RAS that felt right in my hand when I held my rifle. I liked that it was easy to install, I don't know why I thought it was hard to install when I had it on my duty-issued M4. There isn't really any cons, aside from the rail covers sometimes shakes on the rail. The only regret I have was not ordering the vertical grip along with it.

Awesome Handguard

It went on my BCM M4 Socom upper without a fuss. The fit is snug & tight, the rail panels make holding the rifle more comfortable. Everything you'd expect from KAC. The only thing I was disappointed with was this did not come with the KAC vertical grip or the extra panels which came on my other KAC rails. The extra panels are useful if you want to attach accessories without leaving the whole rail exposed since all you get are the long rail sections not the 2,3,4,5 rib sections that KAC rails came with before. I'm not sure if those accessories are for govt customers or they're just not included with KAC rails now but it was a slight annoyance they couldn't include those given the price of these rails. Also, the screw that clamps the top section is different, they were a star pattern screw, but this one has bigger flat-head screw.

Little work to make it fit

Building an M4 clone from old mil spec parts. Used a 14.5 inch H-bar fluted barrel Had to dremel the front upper support bracket on the hand guard to make it fit the barrel, pretty simple but time consuming. The slip ring retainer was too small for the rear of the hand guard to fit properly. Found another one, took everything apart reassembled all and everything came together. Anyway once installed, the hand guard is very solid, looks real good, and feels good in the hand. All and all a great addition and very functional. Any problems with fit can be addressed with a little grinding.

Rock Solid rail system!

Bought an upper from a buddy, and he GAVE me this rail system because he didn't need a carbine length rail. It was BRAND NEW, he'd never even used it. Takes a try or two to get it on, you gotta put the top piece on first, with the front tab INSIDE the end cap, or the lower piece will rattle. Ask me how I know... Make sure you have the screw at the rear of the top all the way loose, so you can catch the barrel nut with the forked piece under the HG. Then get the lower section in, and tighten the top screw. It's heavy (but he's my brother!), and there are sharp edges unless you either use the rail covers that come with it (rather bulky, unless you like the fatty M4 HG) or use ladder rail cover. Heat shield works great, and this thing will probably outlast the human race on this planet, get picked up by the next aliens to visit here, and taken into space to use in intergalactic battles. It's that good.
