Great design combines the features of the original three-position Mauser safety with the convenience of the Win Model 70 unit. I chose the Gentry product because of the very positive reviews I've read, combined with the fact that unlike some others, this one comes already blued. If, like me, you don't have ready access to high-quality blueing, this is a real plus. In addition, the safety lever is retained with a small set screw, rather than the tiny pin used on other's versions, meaning that the unit can be easily disassembled for cleaning and inspection. I certainly was impressed with the quality. Gunsmith fitting is recommended, but would be a simple job for a qualified pro, or even a skilled amateur. All in all, two thumbs up!

I am so pleased with this 3 position safety that I have installed them on several Mauser 98 rifles that I own. I love having the bolt lock when I am hunting with the rifle slung on my back. It prevents a branch or twig from opening the action as I am going through brush. These are reasonably simple to install if you take your time and follow the directions. I also found a video online showing the installation. They are solid feeling and very well made.

This safety is the one I wish I bought initially. It functions almost like the Winchester M70 safety, except to unlock the bolt you must first move the safety all the way back, then move to the middle position. Bottom line is this is a solid piece of kit and looks great on the Mauser 98!
