Very Nice, But.... burrs
I purchased this for an 11.5" 5.56 build with carbine gas on a Criterion barrel mounted to a BCM upper. I'm impressed with the BCG for the most part. I have close to 300 rounds downrange so far. The unit is super easy to clean inside and out. The dual ejectors work very well with ejection on par with the BCG I used originally in this build, at the 3:00 in a pile with 2 foot diameter. I am experiencing very nice groups, equal to or better then the previous AP BCG that was installed. Groups are around 1/2" at 50 yd with red dot sight. Now the reason for the drop of a star. On first installing and checking function the BCG seemed gritty. Sounded like there was sand in the action. I pulled it through a dozen times and it smoothed out. Ok, cool I thought. Went to range and it ran good for over 100 rounds. Next range day it ran very nice and again and I was pretty darn happy. After the 3rd range day I gave the weapon and good inspection. What I saw gave me a chill. The slot in the upper that the cam pin rides in was showing excessive wear at the front, where the pin rotates the bolt into battery. I checked my other AR's and they showed very slight wear, as in most of the anodizing is still in tact after several thousand rounds. This one shows actual wear into the aluminum from the pin. I pulled the BCG apart again and started inspecting it with care. What I found was lots of sharp edges on the cam pin head from the chrome plating. I gently worked it over with some 400 grit wet/dry to take the sharp edges off and make it smooth. This is an easy task and only took a few minutes and a little finesse. I'm not a gunsmith and I hope it hasn't damaged my upper excessively. I believe I have the issue sorted now. I do like the BCG and will most likely buy another but I will be inspecting the unit extensively before installing. KAK should maybe modify their QC a bit and polish the chromed items prior to shipment to eliminate burrs and smooth the edges that mate with aluminum. I'm glad I caught this fairly early. In the photo you can see the results of the sharp edged chrome on the cam pin and what it did to my upper. As far as a review for Brownells? Awesome service as always. This is a good company.
