The Volquartsen Lightweight THM Tension Barrel features a sleeve that is used to create tension on the barrel, eliminating issues typically found in smaller barrel profiles. The barrel consists of a special taper honed match barrel and chamber.

Well worth it
After trying a competitor’s light weight barrel that was an absolute nightmare to fit the VOLQUARTSEN went in like a dream they provided the barrel nut tool, new extractor and firing pin all of high quality. I wasted my money on that other brand

Works great on current production 15-22s
Like the other reviewer, I ordered one of these in 2018 and the machining was incomplete, bolt would not close. Contacted Volquartsen first, they sent RMA and a replacement barrel... which arrived thoroughly used & filthy. Sent that one back to Volquartsen and the incompletely machined new barrel back to Brownells. Waited 6 months, tried again. Barrel #3 was properly machined. Installed in an old quad rail Gen1 15-22 and nothing but malfunctions. Removed and installed in a new 15-22 Sport with Mlok handguard, and runs like a sewing machine with high velocity ammo. Great Steel Challenge & Rimfire Challenge gun. S&W has made subtle changes to their 15-22 extractor & bolt from the old quad rail guns to the current version; so I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Volquartsen to install in a current 15-22, but I wouldn't expect it to work in an older quad rail rifle.

Great lite weight barrel option
I really like the barrel weight the accuracy is on par the factory barrel, which is pretty good, but is a pound less in weight. With Eley contract ammo I can get 1 inch or less grouping at 75 yards. The reason for the 4 stars, is I had to return the first barrel, due to the muzzle threading was not symmetrical with a suppressor, which I tried several, so the groupings were erratic. I first contacted Volquartsen, and the were very helpful in helping me determine the threading, may be off. They were willing to replace the barrel, which was great. However, I elected to use Brownells return policy, which is the best and very fast. I also wanted to determine if the barrel issue was a fluke, or a persistent problem with the barrel. The second barrel was what a had initially expected from a Volquartsen product, I could only give 4 stars and not 5, because I have several Volquartsen barrels for both rifles and pistols and they are super accurate with no returns.
