What is the FAXON FIREARMS - Rimfire 22LR 16" 1-16 Pencil Contour SS BBL Nitride?
One of the pillars of Faxon Firearms® is their belief in the Fellowship of Firearms.


They believe that firearms bring people together and create generational memories. Since the 19th century, the .22 LR has been a perennial favorite for beginning and seasoned shooters alike. That's why they're excited to bring you everything you love about their AR and pistol barrels to the beloved "22."


As with all Faxon Barrels, the "Faxon Rimfire®" line is made in-house at their Cincinnati facility from raw bar stock, and undergo the same rigorous testing and quality control measures that have made Faxon's AR and pistol barrels a market favorite. These barrels are made from 416-R stainless steel, given 6 Groove Rifling at a 1:16 twist, and a Recessed Target Crown.


Barrels are Magnetic Particle Inspected, and are finished in either Salt Bath Nitride or PVD. To give these Faxon Rimfire® barrels their unique touch, they have adapted 3 of their most popular barrel profiles from the AR platform to rimfire: Pencil, Straight Fluted, and patented Flame Fluted profile. Faxon Rimfire® barrels offer weight-savings to typical factory barrels for 10/22®.

Nice barrel
Tight fit. You have to use a heat gun on the receiver to install it. But you don't need to worry about barrel droop.

Faxon barrel
Just what I needed, I read several reviews talking about these not fitting a ruger receiver. I figured it would be no problem to fix it if it was oversized. I had two factory barrels for my 10/22 they were .002 different on the barrel shank. I measured the faxon at .003 over the bigger bigger ruger. I slipped easily into the ruger receiver until the last 1/4” from shouldering up. I used the v-block and the two screws to work it gently down into the receiver alternating the two screws

Quality barrel-required fitting
I have a Ruger 10/22 bought in 1972. Unlike the Faxon video on the install this was not a drop in barrel. Using coarse emory cloth it took me five hours to reduce the circumference of the barrel so it would fit into the receiver without sticking. Today was range day. I was able to place five shot in a three inch group at 50 yards with a Sig Romeo 05 sight. Being a plinking weapon accuracy was acceptable. With a scope groups would have been tighter.

It's pretty and well finished, .050 too large for a factory reciever. Thankfully Brownells does returns.

Poor QA/QC - Crown improperly cut
Originally purchased this for a lightweight 10/22 build, however it did not shoot well on multiple range trips with several different ammo brands and types. And when I say did not shoot well, it was holding 6" groups at 25 yards. My other faxon barrel shoots well and I couldn't figure out what was going on until I inspected the muzzle. The crown had numerous nicks, burrs and had a ding where one of the lands met the crown. I was very disappointed to see that based on the price I paid for the barrel in light of what other options cost and the quality you get with those. Avoid this barrel till the QA/QC improves
