25rd A17- great magazine
These 25rd A17 magazines are great. They are much easier to snap in than the factory rotary magazine. You dont have to smack it to be sure it is fully seated, just lightly rock it forward until you hear the click. The trick to inserting any A17 mag is to have the bolt open so you arent pushing the top round into it. Loading the rounds into the A17 is a breeze. The thumb button lets you take off the pressure and slip rounds right past the feed lips. I shoot hundreds of rounds a trip with the A17. If you load all 10 rounds into the rotary magazine that many times, you will have a sore thumb, not with the 25rd. No break in was required for any of my 25rd mags. They all function flawlessly in any A17 Ive tried, plastic stock, Boyds thumbhole stock, Boyds prairie hunter stock, heavy barrel and sporter barrel. The bad: This magazine is long. It is uncomfortable for me (fat) to sling carry, a skinny friend said it doesnt bother him. Sometimes the magazine hits the bench or rest so I have to freehand the rifle or switch to the flush fitting rotary magazine. Bullbag and Varminter rest are two models that dont work with this magazine. Buying a taller bipod and sand bags fixed this. Switching to a rest with a curve like the lead sled or a two bar rest like the Stinger gave enough clearance for the 25rd magazine. So youre buying a $25 magazine and a $100 rest.

Epic Failure
This is a well built mag. That being said, it is also a completely worthless mag because it will not seat into my rifle. I have a Savage A17 Target Thumbhole. The 10 round mags will not stay locked in without a healthy smack with the palm of my hand. These 25 round mags will not stay locked in at all. The forward catch will not catch, not once, not ever. Push, pull, smack, wiggle, twist, it does not matter it is physically incapable of locking in. I'm thinking that it may have something to do with the Boyde thumbhole stock that came with my rifle. Maybe these would work in the plastic stocked rifles? I believe that the only way to make these work in my wood stocked rifle is to carve out some of the stock wood in the mag well forward catch area to give the mag latch some room to move?
