Good that is it cheap BUT....
This is great that you can get these here at Brownells.com but they are still made from the thin cast iron porous looking metal. I dont know why S&W doesn't change the material used on this important part, when it fails the gun is about as good as a paper weight. They should be made out of very good steal not the stuff that it is made out of. A good one will last around 2000 rounds, average around 800-1200 rounds. Then you will need to replace it before it breaks where the recoil pin and spring rest. SO STOCK UP ON THEM! All in all this is the only problem I have ever had with the S&W 22A-1 pistol. I love this handgun! Here is a pic of a failed Slide Insert. After only 700 Rounds, the worst one yet. Also be sure to get the RECOIL PADS!!! if you don't replace them about every 500-700 rounds your SLIDE INSERT will no doubt end up like this! Xenir
