bolt replacrment
Installing a bolt or hand is time consuming and takes a lot of patience. First if you not a colt gunsmith get Jerry Kuhnhausen Colt single action revolvers book. And I called Peacemaker Specialists and talked to a lady there she was very helpful on what to file and what not file. As to Smith Enterprises part they are harden to about 58 rockwell hardness they will last. Just take your time put the gun together and take it apart and fit it. I have fitted hands, tuned hand springs and bolt springs. They all have to be fit. Each revolver is different.

If only it was a drop in part..... :)
I use these to replace cracked and broken bolts or if the original was fit improperly to begin with and there is too much rotational slop in the cylinder. Of course they CAN'T be 'drop in' as every darn Colt is hand made and hand fit so you had better know what your doing or it may get ruined the first or second time you try to fit one. At these prices you only want to use one part per gun ........ :) .......

Well Made Bolt
This is a well made, properly hardened bolt with sufficient tolerances to be properly fitted to all 1st Generation SAAs I've worked on and I've never had one return for bolt breakage or any other bolt problems after using one of these bolts. I would certainly recommend it to anyone replacing a 1st Generation SAA Bolt. The only complaint that I have, and the reason it didn't get 5 stars, is that this item comes blued/coated - I've never seen a bolt that didn't require fitting so the bluing is something that gets removed anyway during the fitting process. The bluing (or possibly some form of ceramic coating) is just too hard and too well applied to use as a scratch coat in place of dykem when fitting. I would much prefer a bolt in the white, coated only with a rust inhibitor.
