NOVAK - LoMount Adjustable Plain Black 1911 Rear Sight

This is my second one of these. For a direct replacement sight with adjustability, this is and easy one to do. Utilizes original low profile front sight. It stays put once it is installed too.

I purchased the Novak "adjustable" rear sight to improve my Ruger SR1911's accuracy. My pistol was shooting 2-3" low at 30 - 50 ft. I replaced the original Novak (non adjustable) sight with the plain (no dots) adjustable Novak sight. What a positive difference. Shot 25 rds. at the range after installation and all were at the proper elevation - POA. I don't miss the two white dots on the rear sight. I find it's actually easier to see the front sight with the rear sight being just black. Matches my SA 1911 target sights on my 1911-A1's. I had to carefully sand the front bevel of the sights dovetail using 1500 grit paper to achieve a snug fit into the slide. A little cold blue to restore the finish and some blue Loctite on the set screw and it's a solid installation. I swapped out the OEM firing pin, spring and extractor at the same time. It's like a brand new pistol.

Nice replacement on my Springfield 1911 Chapion. No modifications needed. Just changed out the sights in a couple of minutes. Easy adjustment and had the 1911 dailed in just right. I highly recommend this sight.

This sight is Not for precision shooting. Rather for defensive and or sport shooting such as 3 gun. I installed this on my Colt Combat Unit 1911 .45. That had the non-adjustable version. It consistantly shot 1 inch low. It took a bit to get it dialed in . The wide notch on this unit I am still trying to get used to. I prefer a Bomar, type target sight but that is not practical for defensive use. This Novak is for fast pickup in less than perfect lighting. It fits, it is tough as nails. Time will tell if I can get better in its use.

Like everything 1911 related, it requires fitting and the 'spec' is not always the spec. If you have a Springfield Armory 'Novak' cut, then this likely will not work unless the slide is peened to create a press fit. Novak and other manufactures identify SA cuts as being 0.500 wide and a Novak sight actually measures 0.480 not the published 0.495. The later part is why this is a one star review. If you punch out your SA "novak" and it measures ~0.495 then a true Novak will be undersized. Get your calipers and prove me wrong. The SA 'Novak' is closer in size to a Heinie.
