RUGER - Ruger Blackhawk Wide Spur Hammer Satin Finish

I replaced the hammers in my Ruger Vaqueros. I now know a lot more about the operation of my Vaqueros internal workings. Thankfully I had a couple of friends to help with the install, but I did the second on my own. Liked it so much Im doing my other two Vaqueros.

I prefer the Super hammer to the Bisley and especially the standard. While you're doing an action/trigger job and prefer this hammer you may as well install it then and save some time. I always polish all moving and touching parts inside a Blackhawk at this time so I never just take it from the package and install. Good part that may require fitting as is typical with a Blackhawk.

Easy to change to this hammer. I have two New Vequeros, Numbers 511-xxxxxxxx and 513-xxxxxxxx. each had a different hammer face than the other, No worries, this hammer works for both. Better feel and easier to reach.

I found the New Vaquero hammer spur was too tall and thin for me. This made it awkward to reach with one hand. The Bisley hammer spur is at the perfect height for me. I was thinking of doing a Bisley grip frame conversation, however, it was cost prohibitive and the parts alone would be half the price of the whole gun. The Super Blackhawk hammer spur is almost the same height as the Bisley. The spur is also wider than the New Vaquero spur and a 10th of the price of a Bisley conversion. Its almost a drop-in fit. The issue is not with the hammer, but with the pawl. On mine it was too long with the new hammer and would cause the hammer to hang up when operating the hammer and the cylinder was hanging up with the loading gate open. I decided to make it a free spin pawl to correct the issue. Beveling the top finger of the pawl did the trick and eliminated the issue. Now the Super Blackhawk hammer works great in the New Vaquero and does exactly what I wanted by lowering the spur to make it easier to use. The free spin cylinder makes it much easier to load and unload the gun. I really like the change with this hammer.
