What is the EGW - 1911 HEAVY DUTY MAGAZINE RELEASE?

Tactical magazine catch aids in fast mag changes and secure retention to help reduce feed-related failures. Redesigned geometry ensures this catch will fit standard frame holes, while it retains a loose-fitting magazine higher in the magwell than the original catch for more reliable feeding, especially with hollow point ammo. The finely checkered, extended button is .040" higher than the original 1911A1 factory button to ensure fast positive magazine release on the first try. Precision machined on a state-of-the-art, four-axis CNC cutting station from high-grade steel barstock to ensure exact dimensions and superb strength. Available with a satin blued finish or hard-chromed for extra corrosion resistance and lubricity.

SPECS: Carbon steel, blued or hard-chromed finish. Includes Magazine catch only, no lock or spring.

Feeding issues resolved.
I had first round loading issues on my Kimber Gold Combat II. I installed this mag catch and it hold the magazine higher creating a better feed angle for the first round in the magazine. It was a drop in fit with no modifications needed. My pistol is 100% now.

Works Great -BUT
i am a big fan of these and have installed several in friends and my own 1911's. it's helped to cure feeding problems, especially with HP's. some people who are moaning about this part appear to be too ignorant to simply read the specs, the tab sits higher than factory/stock. it may not work with all frame/mag combo's. i've also discovered it absolutely will not work on a Marvel 1911 .22 conversion.

Easy drop in on a Kimber Eclipse
There are some unexpected issues that can come up with these. In my case, the slots in the KimPro mags were not low enough to position the mags for a good feed path. The +.022 lift corrected much of that, however two Wilson Combat mags that were used in the gun no longer would lock up. They can't be used now. This helps remedy the quality problem with the Kimpro mags by raising the shelf beyond the reach of properly cut magazines. In this case it's really not the pistol that needed fixed, it's the mags but no way to do that properly.
