My girlfriend recently received a J-frame S&W 642 5 round in .38 with (nothing else) as a gift from her father. I wanted to get her some carry accessories (something to hold spare rounds so they aren't rattling around in a pocket or purse) and was on a tight budget with a goal of "something is better than nothing." I saw some videos on YouTube explaining how revolver speed loaders work and what to watch out for. It seems like even the pros that use expensive speed loaders all have to train around the same issues, eg. lining up the rounds on insertion and fumbling / dropping rounds. It's sturdy and holds the rounds tight, but it's also bendy so lining up a reload takes some time. This strip version allows you to load 2 rounds at a time. Then you spin the cylinder and load 2 more. Finally you load the last one. In an adrenaline fueled panicked hurry you could strip one at a time off in sequence with shaky hands if you needed to. I would recommend these for wad cutters or any flat nosed projectiles over the other pentagonial bendy speed loaders made by ZETA INDUSTRIES. There are rubber grips on her 642 but they don't interfere. They may interfere with a full size speed loader but I haven't tested it yet. For $9.00 it does the job as intended and it's faster than trying to reload single rounds from the hand. It feels durable and the texture is shiny and more slippery than I expected. It's not straight up rubber. It feels more like a cross between rubber and plastic, more on the plastic side, so it shouldn't fall apart for a long time. You won't have to worry about rounds falling out of it in a pocket or purse, it holds them tight, until you get a good bend into it. You'll want to bend it to reload it as well. No springs, no action, no moving parts to fail or jam. For the money and my intended use it's 5 stars. LEOs, Security, and other duty-carriers using this for their backup piece may want something else, but you also may be pleasantly surprised. I also bought a pack of the pentagonial speed loaders for the same price but they seem to take more fumbling to get all 5 rounds into the cylinder at once. These strip version speed loaders will most definitely work out better for wad cutters and other flat nosed rounds vs the pentagonial version.
