0029-23 Quick Tip - Changing the Glock Magazine Catch_Thumb

How To Remove / Install a Glock Magazine Catch

one year ago
Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant has something important to show us, but there's a catch. He demonstrates how to remove and install the magazine catch on a Glock® pistol. You'll be surprised at how simple the process is. More good news: this will be a very "durable" skill because Gen3 through Gen5 Glock® pistols use the same magazine catch design. Gen3 pistols have a larger cutout on the right-hand side of the frame than on the left. Gen4 and Gen5 pistols have a large cutout on both sides to accommodate positioning the button on either side of the frame. But the process of changing the mag catch is the same. The only tool you need for this task is a small flat-blade screwdriver.

Working from the top of the frame, use the tip of the screwdriver to disengage the mag catch spring from the notch in the magazine catch itself. Slide the catch out the opposite side of the frame. On Gen4 and Gen5 guns, you'll have to lift the spring up enough to get it out of the way of the catch as you slide it out. Insert the new magazine catch into the frame, gently lifting the spring out of the way with the screwdriver (you'll have to do this on Glocks of all "Gens") as you do. Slide the catch past the spring, and then finagle the spring back into the notch in the catch with the screwdriver. And you're DONE! You have now installed a new replacement / upgraded mag catch in your trusty Glock®!
